🌍 Exciting Developments in Peace Mediation! 🕊️
For the second year in a row, we are proud to announce our support for the Bologna Peacebuilding Forum!
Over the past two decades, peace mediation has seen remarkable transformations in terms of who's involved, how it's approached, and its overall legitimacy. The landscape has shifted dramatically: while the United Nations' influence has waned, regional entities like the Arab League and the European Union have taken on more prominent roles. Additionally, countries like Turkey and China have emerged as credible peace mediators, diversifying a field previously dominated by European nations like Norway and Switzerland.
Simultaneously, peace mediation has evolved into a distinct professional domain, with its own community of researchers, experts, and practitioners. Various forms of mediation support now underpin the work of mediators, with states and regional bodies increasingly investing in specialized training and support services for mediators.
Amidst these changes, the upcoming Forum offers a critical platform to delve into these transformative dynamics, focusing on the promise of multi-track and inclusive mediation. Often conducted discreetly, mediation will be openly discussed here, welcoming diverse stakeholders including civil society, women, and youth. Importantly, we'll also address how to engage marginalized groups, including those typically overlooked like violent extremist actors.
The Forum will explore practical strategies that prioritize inclusivity, ranging from grassroots actors to high-level officials, aiming to foster sustainable peace processes. Moreover, we'll examine how digital innovations in mediation can reach and involve these marginalized groups, while also tackling the challenges posed by technology.
Join us for this vital conversation at the forefront of peace mediation!
