Orgoglio fontechiarese....
After an incredible 52 years in the fish and chip trade, including 45 years serving Juniper Green, Elio is finally hanging up his white jacket and retiring.
He’s now looking forward to some well‑earned time with his family, especially his seven grandchildren.
Thank you, Elio, for everything you’ve given to Juniper Green... and the millions of chips you cooked!
Italian immigrants played a huge role in shaping Scotland’s fish and chip tradition, helping turn the humble chippy into one of our most loved national institutions.
During the late 19th and early 20th centuries, thousands of Italians, many escaping poverty and political hardship in places like Barga and across northern Italy, made Scotland their home. They built businesses, served communities, and became part of the fabric of local life.
Elio’s story is part of that legacy. For decades, he has served Juniper Green with the same dedication and warmth shown by generations of Italian families who helped define Scotland’s chippy culture.
