Impactful Journeys: Florence Study Visit
We asked young people living in Florence what do they think about their community and do they feel like they're doing enough for it. We also asked adults how they view youth participation.

🌍 Impactful Journeys – Study Visit in Florence (01–08 Dec 2025)

We asked ourselves: how does a parent perceive youth participation when their child grows up between two cultures?
In Florence, we listened to four stories — Jackline, Abdul, a Moroccan mother who preferred to remain anonymous, and Daniela — to understand what it truly means to feel part of a community.

Their voices tell different stories, yet share the same hope.
🇰🇪 For Jackline, (mother of a boy with autism) and the 🇲🇦 Moroccan mother, school and sports are real bridges: teachers who guide, inclusive projects, parents pushing for equal opportunities.
🇧🇩 For Abdul, the picture is tougher: work takes up everything, leaving little time for learning Italian or taking part in social activities, so his children tend to stay within the Bangladeshi circle.
🇦🇱 Daniela brings the focus back home: if parents feel integrated and open, their children will follow.

Do institutions really listen? The answers aren’t the same.
Jackline feels that society is often more welcoming than bureaucracy, which she describes as slow and expensive.
Abdul and Daniela see real opportunities in Italy, but language barriers still close too many doors.

So, what helps❓Simple, concrete things.
Abdul asks for free Italian courses for families — learning the language changes everything.
Jackline calls for tangible results and stronger commitment from the Municipality and the Region.
The Moroccan mother imagines more intercultural opportunities, where young people can meet, mix, and see each other beyond labels.
Daniela reminds us that change begins at home, through education and motivation.

Florence is full of young energy, creativity, and a strong desire to participate — yet many young people feel left out of decision-making processes. This project explores how to boost youth engagement in the city: are young voices truly being heard? What barriers do they face?

🎥🇮🇹 Study Visit: Florence, 1–8 December
This week we explored Florence not just as visitors, but as learners. 🌍✨

We met young people who study and live here and asked them one big question:
“Are there enough opportunities for youth in Florence?”

Their answers were honest, diverse, and eye-opening — from creative dreams shaped by the city’s rich culture to challenges hidden behind its beauty. 🎨🏛️

Thank you to everyone who shared their voice with us. 💛
Stay tuned as we dive deeper into what we discovered and how youth perspectives can shape better opportunities for the future. 🌱

•Day 6

We started the day with breakfast at the Villa, followed by a visit to a beautiful restaurant - „I Ragazzi di Sipario” ,where people with intelectual disabilities work. Afterwards, we spent some lovely time in Florence, chatting and enjoying espresso. Later, we went to „Recovery Plan”, participating in various activities and tasks related to the project theme. We ended the day with a delicious dinner at Quinoa restaurant before returning to the Villa.

Today marked the final day of our Erasmus+ journey, and we spent it discovering one of Florence’s hidden treasures: Orsanmichele.
A former medieval granary transformed into a church, this beautifully restored space revealed layers of art, architecture, and history that often go unnoticed in the heart of the city. With the guidance of licensed experts, we explored its Gothic details, symbolic sculptures, and the stories that shaped this unique monument. It was the perfect reminder that sustainable tourism also means learning to appreciate the quieter, lesser-known cultural gems.

In the afternoon, we gathered for our Dissemination & Youthpass session, reflecting on what we’ve learned throughout the week, about sustainable tourism, community identity, cultural heritage, and our role as young Europeans in protecting it.

We ended the day, and the project, with a closing reflection circle, sharing our impressions, highlights, and what this experience has meant to us. It was a moment of connection, gratitude, and celebration of everything we built together over these six days.

This project has shown us how cultural heritage, mindful travel, and intercultural exchange can shape our understanding of the world, and of each other.

Here’s to new friendships, new perspectives, and a week that will stay with us for a long time.
Thank you, Florence. 🌿✨

FLORENCE IS DIVERSE AND SO ARE ITS INHABITANTS
In the morning we explored Florence with Migrantour - we had Intercultural Walk through the City’s Multicultural Neighborhoods
Guided by ukrainian guide Olga who currently lives in Florence. The first stop was near Santa Maria Novella church, then we got to know the history of Novecento museum and explored other locations connectes to immigrants in Florence.

In the afternoon we had an outdoor activity around the city center - we created photographic reportages and took short interviews with locals, exploring both the positive and negative aspects of mass tourism vs. sustainable tourism. With the collected content we creates posts and a short articles and shared on our Instagram account.

Day 3 - 13/11/2025: URBAN ART, URBAN HEART 🏛️
On the Thursday of the 13th of November, our group visited the Welcome center of the Municipality of Florence, where we met the public officer for the tourism of the Municipality and the representative of the tourist center. In this meeting we got to know the measures that Florence municipality is taking to counterbalance excessive tourism, aligning with digital tools and marketing strategies.

We got the chance to try a local restaurant that aligns with sustainable values by offering healthy meals for all publics (Quinoa restaurant)

In the end, we took part in a group visit led by the Association Street Art Gallerie, where we got the chance to discover the ways art infiltrates in the daily life of a neighbourhood of Florence that is characterized by its emigrant population, and they do that by connecting Artists with Shutters of the local shops, where they can let their creative fly and be inspired by the essence of the place.

✨ Florence is changing, but for whom?

Talking with locals today, one message kept coming up:
“The city depends on tourism, but it is becoming harder to live and work here.”

From a baker who now serves more tourists than locals, to residents who say that rules are often ignored and prices keep rising, Florence is feeling the pressure of mass tourism.
Opening a business is difficult because of bureaucracy and taxes, and many shared that local life is slowing down while the city center is becoming busier every year.

Covid influenced part of this shift, but the larger story is how tourism is transforming everyday life.

So we ask: Is Florence still for locals, or is tourism taking over?

💬 What do you think? Can a tourist city stay livable for the people who call it home?
🌱

While exploring Florence, we spoke with locals and visitors to understand how people really feel about tourism here. Some see travelers as a vital part of the city’s beauty and culture, while others miss the quieter streets of past years. Different perspectives, but everyone agrees on one thing. Florence remains unforgettable.
