🌿🦩 For five years, we’ve been part of the project, working to help Mediterranean coastal lagoons restore their meadows, recover , and strengthen their resilience.
🌍 Thanks to the collaboration of 10 partners from Italy, Greece, and Spain, seagrass meadows have been restored in six coastal lagoons, proving that marine restoration is both effective and tangible.
In Spain, within the Mar Menor, we achieved:
🌿 Average survival of 80% in Cymodocea nodosa and Ruppia cirrhosa transplants.
📈 Expansion of seagrass meadows, with C. nodosa reaching 88% coverage.
💧 Improved water and sediment quality, restoring natural conditions.
🐟 Recolonisation of benthic flora and fauna, increasing biodiversity.
🌍 Greater climate resilience and stronger ecosystem services.
The project has set a benchmark for seagrass restoration and biodiversity recovery — yet further coordinated actions are needed to achieve full ecosystem restoration.
