Intervista a Vít Pavlík , artista in residenza presso Sincresis
Questions
1. Šumava is an inner landscape that you carry with you. How does the memory of this landscape continue to find its way into your paintings, and how important is it to your artistic practice?
2. In your work, natural forms seem to emerge and dissolve at the same time. Did you begin your artistic journey with a more realistic approach to painting, or did you move towards semi-abstraction from the very beginning?
3. Your painting process seems to involve both control and an openness to chance — through layers, overlapping gestures, textures, and what might be described as a “controlled accident.” How do you recognise when it is time to intervene and when it is better to allow the painting to develop on its own? And how much of the final work do you ultimately leave to chance?
4. Throughout your artistic journey, you have exhibited your work extensively, often in different countries and within very different artistic contexts. What remains with you from these journeys and encounters, and how have they influenced your way of seeing and working?
5. The title of the exhibition, Anima mundi, evokes an invisible connection between the individual, nature, memory and the world. What does this idea mean to you personally, and how does it relate to ideas that have emerged in your previous exhibitions and presentations?
6. You have now experienced the residency at Sincresis and the encounter with a new environment. What do you consider to be the most important aspects of an artist residency, and what has this experience meant for you?
