Hope and vision are wonderful things, and Daniele Kihlgren brought them to Abruzzo in buckets. Where others saw only depopulation and abandoned stone, he saw beauty. He restored what others had left behind and gave the region's "poor heritage" a new sense of pride, first in Santo Stefano di Sessanio and later down in Matera.

Guests at Sextantio, his 1st albergo diffuso, waxed lyrical about the place, its food, and its stillness, and many chose it to celebrate special moments with family, friends, and teams. He brought new footsteps to a forgotten corner of Abruzzo, and he used the proceeds of his hotels to fund health insurance for some of the poorest families in Rwanda, so that no one would die of an illness that cost a few cents to treat.

RIP Daniele. Thank you for the events you hosted for us. You will be missed more than you could ever know by all of us who watched you believe in the simple and create the extraordinary.

This 10-day free walk follows the shepherds' transumanza from L'Aquila to Foggia in Puglia. Your choice of how many days you join for. The towns provide accommodation, food, and often music and entertainment in the evenings. Below in the thread is a link to our October event list, with a breakdown of each stage.
