TiCCA4DANU drives systemic, transformative change for climate change adaptation (CCA) in the Danube Macro-Region.

By 2028, our toolkit will empower cities and regions to implement just and effective CCA strategies, co-designed with local stakeholders. Our innovative approach applies Transformative Innovation Policy (TIP) to the city-region level, linking it with Local Green Deals and enabling new business models, investment tools, and inclusive processes. With strong participation from public authorities, vul

nerable groups, and the private sector, the project aims to overcome structural barriers and promote climate-just resilience. Working with city-regions, we are developing practical tools, training, and governance models that accelerate real change. Rooted in transdisciplinary collaboration, and aligned with EU missions, the project scales through partnerships with the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) and involves neighbouring countries like Ukraine and Turkey. Our ambition: to shape between June 2025 – May 2028 a climate-resilient future by transforming how cities and regions adapt — together. At , we work every day on questions that have no easy answer, one of them being: how do city administrations build the capabilities to adapt to climate change and make that change stick?

So when our colleagues at GreenDEMO (coordinated by Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research ISI, with UCL Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP) launched a capability check exploring almost the same topic: how cities innovate for a green transition and sustain it over time — it spoke directly to the work our community cares about. 🌍

🌡️ Heatwaves, floods, droughts. No longer a forecast: a reality most regions are already living with.

The real question isn't whether to adapt. It's why so many regions are still stuck at the strategy stage, and how to finally move from planning to implementation.

That's exactly the focus of the 2026 International Climate Conference: "From Strategies to Action", 7 to 8 October 2026, at the Hotel Habakuk, Maribor — and is proud to be part of it.

Maribor–Podravje is one of our pilot regions, so this conference is close to our work. Two days, 30+ international experts, and a refreshingly practical agenda: heat, water, trees and fields, the concrete challenges that determine whether a region adapts or falls behind.

A highlight not to miss: Prof. Dr. Dominique Foray (EPFL) opens the keynote programme with "Climate Change Adaptation vs Smart Specialisation." As the scholar who pioneered the smart specialisation concept and Chair of our Advisory Board, Dominique offers rare insight into how regions can turn climate ambition into place-based innovation policy that actually gets funded and built.

🌍 TiCCA4DANU is moving towards Romania's Nord-Est Region!

Building on our work across the Danube Region, we're now preparing the next phase of our Open Discovery Process (ODP) in Suceava and the wider Nord-Est Region.

During a preparatory meeting in Suceava, our team met with partners from Suceava Municipality and ADR Nord-Est to lay the groundwork for the ODP workshop series starting in February 2027.

Building on the city's strong commitment to climate action, the ODP will explore how climate resilience can be strengthened beyond the municipal level — connecting local and regional authorities, research, businesses and civil society around shared climate challenges and opportunities.

A great start to the preparations — and we look forward to bringing the Nord-Est climate resilience community together in February! 🇷🇴

REGILIENCE+ is bringing practical climate adaptation knowledge closer to Europe’s regions and communities. 🌱

Its new five-part Open Training Session series offers regional and local authorities access to practical tools, real-world solutions and opportunities for peer learning.

The first session focused on agricultural resilience, from water management and climate-risk information to nature-based solutions and financing mechanisms.

How can cities and regions make climate adaptation both transformative and just?

’s new guidance offers practical support for:
👉🏻 Integrating justice into adaptation planning
👉🏻 Identifying the root causes of vulnerability
👉🏻 Meaningfully involving vulnerable groups in decision-making

The report was developed by Elliott Woodhouse, Xiran D**g and Susanne Hanger-Kopp the International Institute for Applied Systems Analysis (IIASA).

It also introduces the Adaptation Justice Explorer and a practical 40-step engagement guide for public authorities.

🌍 Are you working on climate adaptation, resilience, governance, financing, nature-based solutions or stakeholder engagement?

The EU Mission on Adaptation to Climate Change has launched a call for experts to join its new Roster of Experts, coordinated through Mission Implementation Platform for Adaptation to Climate Change (MIP4Adapt).

This initiative will help connect regions, cities, Mission projects and adaptation stakeholders with relevant expertise to support practical, evidence-based climate adaptation action across Europe 🇪🇺.

Experts from research, policy, public authorities, consultancies, civil society and the private sector are encouraged to take the survey and register their interest.

📅 Applications submitted by 31 July 2026 will be reviewed in the first assessment round.
