Established by Franco Oppo in 1982 the Festival Spaziomusica is created as a study and research laboratory as well as for the organization of concerts and seminaries, involving composers, soloists, ensembles and musicologists of undisputed fame such as K. Stockhausen, I. Xenakis, L. Nono, M. Kagel, L. Andriessen, T. Riley, S. Sciarrino, E. Morricone, Arditi, Kronos Quartet, Illiard Ensemble, Neue Vokal Solisten, Experimentalstudio of the Heinrich-Strobel-Stiftung des Suedwestfunks E.V. of Freiburg, R. Dick, A. Basso, H. Halbreich, L. Pestalozza, D. Osmond-Smith, becoming during the years an important point of reference for contemporary music in Italy as well as abroad. From this year on and as a yearly event, thirty editions of our Festival Spaziomusica during which โ in about five-hundred concerts more than two-hundred groups and about five-hundred directors and soloists and interpreters of International importance, proposed more than one-thousand-five-hundred compositions, contemporary and of the twentieth century, written by more than six-hundred composers, with about two-hundred as world and Italian premieres. Beginning from its first edition, one of the main aims of the festivals have always been the thought to involve Sardinian musicians, giving them a stimulus and giving them organizational and technical support in order to help their inclusion in this difficult world of contemporary music. The Festival Spaziomusica therefore represents an important appointment for the musicians as well as for the composers to present their work during the year. The participation of known European and/or American groups and of famous soloists has always been taken into consideration, presenting works of the most recent music production, many of them in first absolute ex*****on and especially commissioned. In conclusion, there have always been many activities with guests and Sardinian students in co-cooperation with the Conservatorio of Cagliari and Sassari and with the Universities of the same cities, giving these young people the opportunity to observe very near what kind of competency is necessary to be able to dedicate oneself to the study, the performance and the composition of this music.
