Dissemination of the project

APV "SMART - Rural Activists" 🇮🇹

Over the past few days, IYA Eutopia through our representative participated in Samugheo, Sardinia, in a series of international meetings and activities (APV) related to the SMART – Rural Innovators project, which brings together organizations and young people from several European countries.
The main event was the international meeting and public presentation of the project, held in the municipal council hall of Samugheo, where partners presented the objectives of the project and the planned activities for the upcoming period. The project involves participants from Italy, Croatia, Poland, Portugal, Bulgaria, and Greece, and aims to encourage young people to take an active role in the development of rural communities while strengthening their entrepreneurial and civic competences.

A particular emphasis of the project is placed on rural areas, which are increasingly recognized as places of new opportunities—not only for preserving traditions but also for developing innovative entrepreneurial ideas and fostering international cooperation. The project aims to help young people recognize the potential of their local territories, while also becoming aware of the opportunities offered by European mobility and education programmes.

Next activities of the project will be an international youth exchange in Samugheo, scheduled for 11–18 May 2026, which will bring together around 30 young participants from six European countries. The programme will include workshops, simulations of local decision-making processes, collaborative project development activities, and visits to local businesses and craft enterprises.

The project is implemented with the support of the Erasmus+ programme, with co-funding from the Region of Sardinia and the Municipality of Samugheo, demonstrating the strong commitment of local institutions to involving young people in the development of their communities.

In addition to the main event, the days spent in Samugheo included working meetings with project partners, discussions on future initiatives, and exchanges of ideas on how to further connect European regions through themes such as rural entrepreneurship, youth mobility, innovation, and local community development.

Special thanks go to the hosts from Associazione Malik for their excellent organization, warm hospitality, and inspiring discussions. The meetings in Samugheo provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen cooperation and explore future projects that will further connect Croatia, Sardinia, and other European regions

Plan International is deeply alarmed by the escalating military conflict in Iran and the Middle East which puts children at grave risk.

Of particular concern are reports of attacks on educational facilities, including an elementary girls’ school in Minab, Hormozgan Province in southern Iran. We are devastated by reports that at least 148 children have been killed and many others injured. Attacks on schools – and the killing and maiming of children – are two of the six grave violations of children’s rights in conflict and against international law.

Children always pay the highest price in armed conflict and wars: they must be protected at all times. Strikes and the use of explosive weapons in populated areas inevitably put innocent lives at risk.

We echo the urgent call by UN Secretary-General for an immediate cessation of hostilities. It is critical that all parties exercise maximum restraint and strictly uphold their obligations under International Humanitarian Law. This includes the absolute protection of children, schools, hospitals and civilian infrastructure and all civilians.

Children should never be targets or casualties of war. Ever.
