EASY WASTE is a cross-border project funded by INTERREG Greece–Italy 2021–2027 and aimed at tackling marine litter by improving waste management through collaboration between fishermen and port authorities.

🌊 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗬 𝗪𝗔𝗦𝗧𝗘!

The Municipal Harbour Fund of Pyrgos coordinates EASY WASTE activities in the Port of Katakolo - located in the Elis Region of Greece - where the IT project solutions will be tested.

Its contribution strengthens the cross-border dimension of the project, connecting Italy and Greece around a shared goal: cleaner seas and more sustainable ports.

From 5 to 13 September 2026, Patras Science Park participated in the 90th
Thessaloniki International Fair at Pavilion 7, Booth 12, where it introduced visitors to
its European projects, including EASY WASTE.

EASY WASTE brings together partners from Greece and Italy to explore innovative
approaches to waste management and support more sustainable practices. The fair
offered an opportunity to share the project with visitors and highlight the value of
cooperation between research, innovation and local communities.

With its relevant experience managing port area operations, the Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mare Adriatico Meridionale plays a key role in the EASY WASTE Project. It supports the implementation of the WRGM system by sharing useful information and contributing to testing the project’s innovative solutions.

The port authority's participation will ensure effective involvement of port areas in project activities.

🌊 𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐘 𝐖𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐄: 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

EASY WASTE is a cooperation project between Italy and Greece addressing the issue of accidentally fished marine litter.

By involving fishermen, port authorities, environmental agencies and institutional partners, the project aims to improve the collection, classification, monitoring and recycling of marine waste through innovative digital tools and a shared cross-border strategy.

The IT solution developed within the project will be tested in the South Adriatic and Ionian port areas, helping to make marine waste management simpler, faster and more traceable.

EASY WASTE is promoted by a cross-border partnership bringing together Italian and Greek organisations: DITNE - Distretto Tecnologico Nazionale sull'Energia, ITS Academy Mobilità, Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mare Adriatico Meridionale, Patras Science Park, Municipal Harbour Fund of Pyrgos.

Kick-off Meeting del progetto EASY WASTE

Il 14 ottobre 2025, a Palazzo Guerrieri (Brindisi), prende ufficialmente il via EASY WASTE – Efficient Ports Waste Management Solutions for Blue Circular Economy, il nuovo progetto cofinanziato dal Programma Interreg Grecia–Italia.

Un’iniziativa che punta a sviluppare soluzioni innovative per la gestione dei rifiuti portuali, promuovendo sostenibilità, collaborazione e tutela del mare tra le due sponde dell’Adriatico.
