From the countryside to the city: sport that includes everyone.
This week, ARFIE connected two worlds that belong together โ€” accessible rural experiences and inclusive sport.
At Parco della Chiusa our partner gathered all its members for a GA immersed in the green, experiencing what rural tourism is and how important is to make it accessible, while in Milan visited to the RunChallenge training centre with the PlayMore! with a delegation from all over Europe ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ
Making rural tourism truly accessible goes beyond accessible websites and booking tools. It's about the full experience โ€” including the freedom to be active outdoors. Inclusive sport like RunChallenge shows that nature, movement and the countryside can be open to people of all abilities and frailties.
Sport in rural areas is more than recreation: it's a pathway to inclusion, well-being and a tourism sector that leaves no one behind!
Together with our partners, we building a Europe where both travelling and moving are for everyone.

We are back at Parco della Chiusa ๐ŸŒณ for ARFIE Annual General Assembly

An important moment where members align on shared priorities for the coming year; ongoing EU projects are connected into a coherent network strategy; and the social economy voice on accessibility, inclusion and rural development is sharpened

A few reflections from the room:
โœ… The conversations on accessibility, inclusion and digital transition cut across every project our network runs โ€” and DigAccessAgrotourism is a clear example of how these themes converge in rural tourism.
โœ… Members are sharing concrete experience from the field, including from the recent Bologna Train-the-Trainer sessions.
โœ… Italy is once again proving how powerful local cooperative networks (a warm thank-you to Legacoop Emilia-Romagna) can be in turning European projects into real outcomes for SMEs.

Strong networks are built in moments like today โ€” under the trees of Parco della Chiusa, with people who care about the same mission.

21 May โ€” World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development.

Few sectors carry cultural diversity as visibly as rural tourism does. Every agrotourism business is, in a sense, a small cultural ambassador: a way of cooking, a landscape, a language, a tradition.

DigAccessAgrotourism brings together six countries โ€” Belgium, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, Poland and Portugal โ€” precisely because accessibility solutions cannot be designed in a single context. What works in a Italian countryside cooperative may need adaptation in a Cypriot agritourism, and vice versa.

The richness lies in the dialogue:

๐ŸŒพ different languages, but shared standards

๐ŸŒพ different food and heritage, but a common commitment to inclusion

๐ŸŒพ different starting points, but a converging direction

That is European cooperation at its best โ€” and it is exactly what makes our Framework genuinely useful on the ground.

What exactly is an Individual Digital Development Plan (IDDP)? ๐Ÿงญ

In DigAccessAgrotourism, the IDDP is the working document that guides each participating SME through its own digital and accessibility journey โ€” built together with a mentor, not handed down as a generic template.

A typical plan covers:
๐Ÿ”น a baseline audit of the website, booking system and online presence
๐Ÿ”น priority improvements for accessibility (WCAG-aligned where relevant)
๐Ÿ”น a roadmap for visibility โ€” search engines, social media, partnerships
๐Ÿ”น staff capacity and skills needed to maintain progress
๐Ÿ”น measurable goals and follow-up checkpoints

The result is a practical, owned-by-the-SME plan โ€” not a consultant's report on a shelf. And because mentors share methodology across borders, every plan also benefits from a wider European pool of practice.

Curious to know more? Our partners are still onboarding agrotourism SMEs.

How does an EU project move from research to real change? A quick look back at DigAccessAgrotourism ๐Ÿ‘‡

Phase 1 โ€” Mapping (2024โ€“2025)
Together with partners in Poland, Cyprus, Greece, Italy and Portugal, we surveyed 82 agrotourism SMEs and 24 enabling organisations to understand: how accessible are their digital channels today? What support do they need?

Phase 2 โ€” Framework & Training (late 2025)
The findings fed into the Framework for Digital Transition and Accessibility in Rural Agrotourism, followed by Train-the-Trainer sessions in Bologna that equipped a European pool of mentors.

Phase 3 โ€” Mentoring (now)
Tailored 4-month mentoring journeys for SMEs, free of charge, leading to Individual Digital Development Plans.

โžก What's next? National and transnational workshops, an international hackathon, and financial support for at least 250 SMEs.

This is what European cooperation looks like when it focuses on real rural enterprises.

Happy Europe Day from the DigAccessAgrotourism consortium! ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡บ

On 9 May, as Europe celebrates the values that bring us together โ€” peace, solidarity, and cooperation across borders โ€” we are proud to mark this day alongside the partners of DigAccessAgrotourism (Project No. 101167990), a European initiative working to make rural and agrotourism experiences more inclusive and digitally accessible for everyone.
This year, ARFIE, our responsible for Dissemination and Networking, is celebrating Europe Day in a particularly meaningful way: by attending the Annual General Assembly of the European Disability Forum (EDF) in Cyprus ๐Ÿ‡จ๐Ÿ‡พ โ€” a gathering that embodies the very essence of what we celebrate today: Europeans coming together to advance rights, inclusion, and solidarity across borders.
Europe Day is a reminder that the strength of our Union lies in what we build together. DigAccessAgrotourism embodies exactly that spirit: a partnership spanning Poland, Cyprus, Greece, Italy, and Portugal, joining forces to ensure that digital tools, online services, and rural tourism experiences are designed with accessibility at their core โ€” leaving no one behind.
Today, more than ever, we celebrate a Europe that is accessible, inclusive, and united in diversity.

Europe Day is in two days โ€” a good moment to remember why a project like DigAccessAgrotourism is European by design.

Rural tourism is local in soul, but accessibility, visibility and digital quality benefit hugely from shared European standards and exchange.

From Belgium to Cyprus, passing trhough Portugal, Poland Italy, and Greece, six partners are working so that small agrotourism businesses don't have to figure it out alone.

๐ŸŒฟ May begins, and so does the most concrete phase of !

Across Poland, Cyprus, Greece, Italy and Portugal, our trained mentors are now sitting down with rural and agrotourism SMEs to design Individual Digital Development Plans โ€” practical, tailored, and free of charge for participating businesses.

The project is at a major milestone, as the partnership is preparing to deliver its Digital Development Plan (DDP), which is meant to to help social economy SMEs in agrotourism bridge their digital accessibility gap! Through tailored mentoring and expert guidance, weโ€™re helping businesses grow while becoming more inclusive.

Let's work together for a rural tourism that is digitally visible, accessible, inclusive, and welcoming for everyone. ๐Ÿ’š

Digital accessibility is more than a technical feature - it is about making agrotourism experiences open to everyone. ๐ŸŒโ™ฟ๐ŸŒฟ

Digital accessibility means ensuring that websites, booking systems, and online information can be used easily by all visitors, including people with disabilities, older travellers, and those with diverse needs. For agrotourism businesses, this is a practical step toward improving service quality, reaching wider audiences, and creating more inclusive rural tourism experiences.

Through the DigAccessAgrotourism project, we support SMEs in rural areas to strengthen their digital capacity and develop tailored digital solutions that improve accessibility in real-life business settings. At the same time, we work with enabling organisations, such as chambers and training providers, to build their capacity to guide and support agrotourism businesses on their digital accessibility journey.

By combining digital tools, personalised support, and practice-based learning, the project helps businesses move toward a clear goal: accessible and inclusive agrotourism services for all visitors.
