🐟Yesterday in Bari, the project meeting took place, marking the second day of activities focused on partner coordination and the definition of next steps.

A hands-on moment to align visions, share progress and strengthen joint work between Italy and Greece, with the aim of building a common strategy for the sustainable development of the aquaculture sector.

🇬🇷 The journey continues: the next meeting will take place in Greece, in Agrinio, for the third project meeting.

Aquaculture is evolving. And it needs new solutions.
In a region with over 60 aquaculture plants, the sector is facing real challenges: rising costs, environmental pressures and increasing demand.

During the 4HelixAquaCultureNet roundtable, experts explored concrete solutions: eco-friendly techniques to improve fish health, innovative feeds and production systems, tools to ensure quality and food safety.

The goal: make aquaculture more efficient, sustainable and resilient.

That’s where innovation comes in.

With 4HelixAquaCultureNet, we are building a network between Italy and Greece, bringing together partners from both countries — including research centres, business organisations and institutions — who gathered in Bari to meet, exchange and start building a common strategy together.

🤝 During the event, partners and stakeholders introduced the project, its objectives and the activities that will shape the next steps of this European cooperation initiative.

🌊 Today in Bari, we opened a discussion on the future of aquaculture as part of the 4HelixAquaCultureNet project, bringing together businesses, research, institutions and communities across Italy and Greece.

Opening the event, 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐨 𝐑𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨, President of Legacoop Puglia, hosting the event, shared his vision:

Building the future, starting from local territories.
Aquaculture in Apulia is both a challenge and a great opportunity.
Innovation, sustainability and value chains are the real drivers of growth.

It’s not just about producing more.
It’s about producing better.

🌊𝐁𝐥𝐮𝐞, 𝐠𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧, 𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐛𝐥𝐮𝐞.
𝐖𝐡𝐲 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐞𝐚 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐬𝐨 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐲 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐬?

It’s not just a matter of light or depth. The sea is also painted by billions of microscopic organisms: phytoplankton.
When it’s abundant, the water turns greener; when it’s scarce, the sea shifts to a deep, intense blue.

These changes aren’t just beautiful to look at.
They tell us about the health of the sea. NASA satellites observe these color variations to show when marine ecosystems are thriving and when they’re under stress.

In 4helix, even a color becomes a valuable clue for reading the future of the Mediterranean.

🇪🇺 4helixAquaCultureNet shows how Greece and Italy are working together to grow a sustainable blue economy, across the Ionian region.

During the first kick-off meeting, in their respective roles, Mr Gadaleta (Joint Secretariat, Greece–Italy Programme) and Ms Simou (ETANAM S.A.) shared a common view: this cross-border collaboration effectively connects research, public policy, and industry, supporting economic growth while protecting the environment and strengthening ties between communities and authorities.

🌊The photos below capture a strong example of collaboration in action, with Greek and Italian authorities working hand in hand, driving sustainable growth in Preveza and Arta, caring for the environment, and embracing a shared European responsibility to address common Mediterranean challenges.

Together, we’re shaping a “Blue” future that respects heritage and safeguards our seas.
