Dr. Amadou Gigo
Founder and Chief Executive Officer, GIGO Construction Ltd.
Dr. Amadou Gigo is a Brikama born Gambian entrepreneur, construction professional, and business leader whose career spans more than three decades in the construction industry. Through his dedication, experience, and commitment to national development, he has established himself as a respected figure in The Gambia's private sector.
He began his professional journey in the construction industry after obtaining an Advanced Diploma and General Course in Building Construction from the Gambia Technical Training Institute (GTTI). Between 1992 and 1999, he served as Project Manager at TAF Construction Ltd., gaining valuable experience in project ex*****on, construction management, and site supervision.
In 1999, Dr. Gigo embarked on his entrepreneurial journey, establishing what would grow into GIGO Construction Ltd., a proudly Gambian-owned construction company incorporated in March 2004. Under his leadership, the company has undertaken a range of construction and infrastructure projects, contributing to the development of residential, commercial, institutional, and public facilities across The Gambia. Guided by the company's motto, “First Class Delivery Always,” he has continued to champion professionalism, quality workmanship, and the growth of indigenous businesses.
Beyond his business achievements, Dr. Gigo has made significant contributions to professional and institutional leadership. He served as Vice Chairman of the GTTI Board from 2002 to 2008 and subsequently as Chairman from 2008 to 2020, demonstrating a longstanding commitment to technical and vocational education. He also served as an Executive Member of the Gambia Chamber of Commerce from 2004 to 2020 and was a Platinum Member of the American Chamber of Commerce from 2010 to 2020.
In recognition of his professional journey and accomplishments, Dr. Gigo has also been awarded an Honorary Doctorate by the University of Science, Engineering and Technology (USET).
Dr. Amadou Gigo's story reflects the journey of a Gambian professional who progressed from construction management into entrepreneurship and institutional leadership.
