Today, the SPE–DPU team organized a valuable scientific visit to the Groundwater Directorate in Duhok. The visit focused on understanding how to select a suitable location for a drinking-water well, the required procedures, and the methods used to calculate subsurface resistivity, including the Wenner Array and Schlumberger Array resistivity methods. In addition, well logging techniques for groundwater evaluation were clearly explained.

We would like to express our sincere appreciation to the Groundwater Directorate in Duhok for their cooperation and valuable insights. Special thanks to our respected teachers, Mr. Sehad and Ms. Dareen, for their guidance and support throughout this visit.

Deep and heartfelt thanks to Dr. Ammar Issam, Head of the Petroleum Geology Department, for his continuous support, encouragement, and commitment to providing us with meaningful academic and field experiences.

​We are proud to announce the formal participation of the SPE Duhok Polytechnic University (DPU) staff in the first-ever SPE Kurdistan Student Summit. Hosted by the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS) on February 12th, 2026, this landmark gathering brought together 11 SPE student chapters from across the Kurdistan Region-Iraq Section to collaborate on the future of energy and leadership.

🌍🛢️ SPE–DPU Field Activity | Tawke Oil Seepage Visit

Today, the SPE–DPU team organized a field visit to the Tawke oil seepage site, where students gained hands-on experience in understanding the topography and geological structure of the area. The activity included field explanations of the structural setting and natural oil seepage, with direct observation at the site.
Additionally, the history of Tawke village was discussed to provide geological and cultural context.
