New Life Organization For Anfal Women

The Anfal Campaign was a genocidal campaign against the Kurdish people (and other non-Arab populations) led by the Ba'athist government. According to Iraqi prosecutors, as many as 182,000 people were killed. The victims of the genocide were mainly men, and consequently their women relatives were left to face the aftermath alone. hey face many problems: psychological, economic and social. NLO works with women, and in particular those affected by the Anfal Campaign. Since 2004 we have been running various projects aimed at teaching participants different skills in which they can go on to make a living from. Two notable projects we are currently working on:
1) Since 2006 we have been running computer skills workshops in various locations, the current location being Tekya. The centre is open to young men and women who are then awarded a certificate upon completion which is recognized by employers.
2) Since 2008 we have been running dressmaking workshops in various locations, the current location being Khurmal. In the past some of the women have successfully taken the skills that they have learned and have gone on to become seamstresses of their neighborhood.
3) Aside from these two ongoing projects, we also run many other smaller projects.
