لە سەردانێکیدا کۆنسولی گشتی بەریتانیا بەڕێز ئەندرو سەردانی پایە ستۆدیۆی کرد و ڕێکخراوەکانی بەسەرکردەوە لە نێویاندا رێکخراوی پارێزەرانی ئاوی عێراق کوردستان و چەند بابەتێکی گرنگ لە بارەی چۆنێتی بەرەنگاربوونەوەی کێشە ژینگەییەکان و چارەسەر بۆیان باس کرا.

During his visit, British Consul General Mr. Andrew visited Paia Studio and visited organizations including the Waterkeepers Iraq Organization and several important issues on how to fight environmental problems and solutions were discussed with them.

The WaterKeepers Iraq team recently visited several waste disposal and sewage discharge sites across Sulaymaniyah, including Tanjaro, to better understand the current situation and document observations.

During our visits, we witnessed different forms of waste, along with untreated sewage, flowing directly into the river.

These are challenges that deserve our collective attention, as they affect the health of our waterways, ecosystems, and communities.

Protecting our rivers is a shared responsibility. Raising awareness is the first step toward meaningful action, sustainable solutions, and a cleaner future for everyone. 🌊

بووژانەوەی سەرچاوە ئاوییەکان لە عێراق دەرفەتێکە، نەک چارەسەری کۆتایی
دوای وەرزێکی درێژی بارانبارین کۆبوونەوەی بڕێکی زۆری باران لە زستانی ڕابردوودا، عێراق بووژانەوەیەکی بەرچاوی بەخۆییەوە بینی لە سەرچاوەکانی ئاودا. بەپێی ڕاپۆرتەکانی ئەمدواییانە، یەدەگی ئاوی عێراق بەراورد بە ساڵی ڕابردوو بە شێوەیەکی بەرچاو زیادی کردووە، ئەمەش یارمەتیدەر بووە لە باشترکردنی دەستڕاگەیشتن بە ئاو و بووژاندنەوەی بەشێک لە زۆنگاوەکان و ژینگەی وڵات بە گشتی، دوای چەندین ساڵ لە وشکەساڵی و قەیرانی توندی بێئاوی. ئەم بڕە لە دابارین بۆتە هۆی دڵخۆشی و بوژاندنەوەی کۆمەڵگاکان، کەرتی کشتوکاڵ و زیندەهەمەجۆریی لە سەرانسەری عێراقدا.

یەک وەرزی باراناوی ناتوانێت ئەو ئاڵانگارییە درێژخایەنانە چارەسەر بکات کە ڕووبەڕووی داهاتووی ئاوی عێراق دەبنەوە. گۆڕانی کەشوهەوا، کەمبوونەوەی ڕێژەی ئاوی هاتوو لە سنوورەکانەوە، بەڕێوەبردنی نادروستی ئاو، پیسبوونی ژینگە لە هەڕەشە سەرەکییەکانی سەر ژینگە و ئاوی عێراقن و هەر بەوشێوەیەش دەمێننەوە. زیادبوونی یەدەگی ئاو، چارەسەری کێشەی ئاو نییە لە عێراق، بەڵکو دەرفەتێکی گرنگە بۆ ئەوەی لە داهاتوودا ستراتیژیاننە و وریایانە مامەڵە بکەین.

Following a long rainy season and significant rainfall accumulation over the past winter, Iraq is witnessing a remarkable recovery in its water resources. According to recent reports, Iraq’s strategic water reserves have increased significantly compared to last year. This has helped improve water availability and restore parts of the country’s marshlands and broader environment after consecutive years of drought and severe water scarcity. This abundance of rainfall has brought much-needed relief and revitalization to communities, the agricultural sector, and biodiversity across Iraq.
At Waterkeepers Iraq, we welcome these positive developments and view them as a hopeful sign for our rivers, wetlands, and natural ecosystems. However, this recovery must not be misinterpreted as the end of Iraq’s water crisis.
A single wet season cannot resolve the long-term challenges facing Iraq’s water future. Climate change, reduced transboundary water inflows, inefficient water management, and environmental pollution remain major threats to Iraq’s ecosystems and water supply—and they will persist. The recent rise in water reserves is not a definitive cure for the water crisis; rather, it provides a critical opportunity for us to act strategically and prudently moving forward.
While the current improvement inspires hope, securing a bright future for Iraq’s water resources demands unwavering commitment, strategic planning, and collective action. Water is not merely a resource; it is the very foundation of life, resilience, and sustainability in Iraq.

کارێکی ھونەری نوێ لەسەر کەنارەکانی دەریاچەی دوکان نەخشێندرا، کە تێیدا پەیوەندی قووڵی کوردستان بە ڕووبارەکان، سروشت و شوێنەوارە کولتوورییەکانییەوە بەرز ڕادەگرێت.
ئەم بەرھەمە ھونەرییە، کە لەلایەن ڕێکخراوی پارێزەرانی ئاوی عێراق (Waterkeepers Iraq) گەشەی پێدراوە، شێوەی دوو بەلەمی ڕووباریی نەریتی نیشان دەدات.
ئەم تابلۆیە، کە ئیلھامی لە بەلەمە مێژووییەکانی وەک «کەلەک» و «مەشھووف» وەرگرتووە، ڕێز لەو نەوەیە دەگرێت کە لە تەنیشت ڕووبارەکانی مێزۆپۆتامیادا گەشتیان کردووە، بازرگانییان کردووە و ژیاون.

Leaving Art Speaks: A New Installation on the Shores of Dukan Lake

A new public art installation has been unveiled along the shores of Dukan Lake, celebrating Kurdistan's deep connection to its rivers, landscapes, and cultural heritage.

The artwork, developed by Waterkeepers Iraq, features the silhouettes of two traditional river boats mounted on a limestone mountainside overlooking the water. Inspired by historic vessels such as the Kalak and Mashoof, the installation pays tribute to the generations of people who traveled, traded, and lived alongside the rivers of Mesopotamia.

Positioned above the lake's waterline, the artwork also reflects the changing relationship between people and water. As water levels rise and fall throughout the year, the distance between the installation and the shoreline becomes a visible reminder of drought, rainfall, and environmental change.

This artwork is currently installed at the level of Dukan Lake’s present waterline, which is now aligned with the elevation of the bell mouth. Historically, the lake has reached this level only three times: in 1988, 2019, and now in 2026. As water levels recede, the artwork will remain in place as a visual marker, documenting how high the water once rose and leaving a lasting record of this moment in the lake’s history.

Created by Sabah Muhammed, artist , and installed by Syamand Muhammed, technician, the piece took three days to complete. Suspended on the mountainside above the lake, the installation serves as both a tribute to the region's river heritage and a reminder of the importance of protecting its waterways for future generations.

بەبۆنەی ڕۆژی جیهانی ژینگەوە ڕێکخراوی پارێزەرانی ژینگە لە شەنگال کە دەستەخوشکی ڕێکخراوەکەمانن و لە سەرەتای دەستبەکاربوونیانەوە هاوکار و پاڵپشتی یەک بووین هەستاون بە ئەنجامدانی ئەم چالاکییە بۆ پاک ڕاگرتنی ژینگە و کۆکردنەوەی خۆڵ و خاشاکی هاوڵاتییان لە یەک جێگەدا، سوپاس بۆ هەوڵ و ماندوبونەکانتان... جێگای شانازین

On the World Environment Day, the Environment Protectors Organization in Sinjar, which is a sister organization to ours, and with whom we have mutually supported and assisted each other since the very beginning , has organized this activity to keep the environment clean and collect citizens' waste in a single location.
