Meet Murooj Jamal – OCWP Officer 🌿

Murooj Jamal joined Islamic Relief Iraq in September 2016 and has since contributed to several programs, working closely with a diverse group of colleagues 🤝. Throughout her journey, she has built strong professional relationships and takes pride in the shared achievements and experiences that have shaped her path.

Known for her calm and easygoing personality 😊, Murooj values teamwork and fosters a positive work environment. She approaches her colleagues with respect and kindness, treating them like family and consistently striving to leave a positive impact ❤️✨.

Among the programs she has worked on, the SGBV and Orphans programs have had the most significant influence on her professional and personal development. Through the SGBV program, she gained valuable insight into the challenges faced by women . ✨ Meet Sarah, our OCWP Senior Officer✨

Sarah is a dedicated humanitarian worker with over ten years of experience supporting marginalized communities through civil society organizations. Throughout her career, she has remained passionate about serving vulnerable populations and contributing to initiatives that promote dignity, resilience, and long-term community development.

Her journey with Islamic Relief Worldwide in Iraq has spanned multiple programs — from providing food assistance to Syrian refugees to supporting protection initiatives for internally displaced families and local communities. These experiences have strengthened her professional skills, deepened her understanding of humanitarian needs, and shaped her purpose. However, it was when she joined the Orphan Sponsorship Programme that she truly found where her heart belongs.

The motivates which Sarah has is not just the work itself, but the meaningful moments behind it — the smile of a child who can continue their education , the relief of a family gaining stability , and the quiet hope that begins to grow again . For Sarah, these moments are powerful reminders that even small acts of support can create lasting impact. They inspire her to continue working with dedication and compassion every single day.

🌟 Meet Twana Rafaat Baqi, a dedicated Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) Officer at Islamic Relief Worldwide – Iraq (IRW-Iraq), based in the Halabja Field Office.🌟

Since graduating, Twana has shown a strong passion for working within the livelihoods sector, supporting youth in their career development and entrepreneurial journeys.

On 15 February 2024, Twana joined IRW-Iraq as an FSL Officer, where he has been actively supporting youth through employment readiness, skills development, and entrepreneurial opportunities. His dedication has contributed to empowering individuals and enhancing community resilience.

In addition to his professional role, Twana has founded two startups across different sectors, gaining valuable hands-on experience in business development, startup management, and entrepreneurship. This practical experience enriches his work and strengthens the support he provides to aspiring entrepreneurs.

Twana has also made tangible efforts in building the Halabja Office from scratch, demonstrating strong commitment, leadership, and ownership. His contributions continue to create meaningful opportunities and strengthen livelihoods support for the communities we serve.

تعزيز مراكز التطوير المهني في حلبجة💼

يُعدّ الاستثمار في الكوادر الأكاديمية والمهنية الداعمة أساسيًا لتحسين الخدمات الطلابية وتوسيع فرص العمل، قدّمت منظمة الإغاثة الإسلامية عبر العالم - العراق برنامجًا لبناء القدرات لـ 17 مشاركًا من جامعة حلبجة، وكلية حلبجة التقنية، ومعهد حلبجة التقني.

من خلال برنامج تدريب المدربين الذي استمر 30 ساعة، والذي جمع بين الجلسات الحضورية والافتراضية، عزّز المشاركون مهاراتهم في مجال المعرفة الرقمية، والتوجيه المهني، والتيسير التفاعلي، والاستخدام المهني لمنصة لينكدإن. ركّز التدريب على التطبيق العملي، والتوجيه، والتعلم من الأقران لتحسين خدمات مراكز التطوير المهني.

يعمل المشاركون حاليًا على دمج الأدوات الرقمية في خدمات دعم الطلاب وتبادل المعرفة داخل مؤسساتهم. ولضمان استدامة هذا التقدم، ستزوّد منظمة الإغاثة الإسلامية عبر العالم - العراق مراكز التطوير المهني بموارد تكنولوجية حديثة لتحسين تقديم الخدمات والاستجابة لاحتياجات سوق العمل المتغيرة.

وەبەرهێنان لە پشتگیری ستافی ئەکادیمی و پیشەیی کلیلی باشترکردنی خزمەتگوزارییەکانی خوێندکاران و فراوانکردنی دەرفەتەکانی دامەزراندنە. لە پارێزگای هەڵەبجە، فریاگوزاری ئیسلامی لە سەرانسەری جیهان – عێراق پرۆگرامێکی تواناسازی بۆ ١٧ بەشداربوو لە زانکۆی هەڵەبجە، کۆلێژی تەکنیکی هەڵەبجە، و پەیمانگای تەکنیکی هەڵەبجە پێشکەش دەکات.

لە ڕێگەی پرۆگرامێکی ٣٠ کاتژمێری ڕاهێنانی ڕاهێنەران (ToT)- کە کۆبوونەوەی کەسی و مەجازی تێکەڵ دەکات- بەشداربووان کارامەییەکانیان لە زانیاری و شارەزایی دیجیتاڵی، ڕێنمایی پیشەیی، ئاسانکاری کارلێککارانە و بەکارهێنانی پیشەیی لینکیدئین بەهێزتر کرد. ڕاهێنانەکە جەختی لەسەر بەکارهێنانی کرداری، ئاڕاستەکردن و فێربوون لە ڕێگای کەسە نزیکەکان و هاوڕێیان کردەوە بۆ بەرزکردنەوەی خزمەتگوزارییەکانی سەنتەری گەشەپێدانی پیشەیی (CDC).

ئێستا بەشداربووان کاردەکەن بۆ تێکەڵکردنی ئامرازە دیجیتاڵییەکان لە خزمەتگوزارییەکانی پشتیوانی خوێندکاران و هاوبەشکردنی زانیاری لەناو دامەزراوەکانیاندا. بۆ بەردەوامبوونی ئەم پێشکەوتنە، ڕێکخراوی فریاگوزاری ئیسلامی – عێراق، سەنتەری گەشەپێدانی پیشەیی بە سەرچاوەی تەکنەلۆژی مۆدێرن تەیار دەکات بۆ باشتر کردنی پێشکەشکردنی خزمەتگوزاری و وەڵامدانەوەی پێداویستییە پەرەسەندووەکانی بازاڕی کار.

Strengthening Career Development Centers in Halabja
Investing in academic and career support staff is key to improving student services and expanding employment pathways. In Halabja Governorate, Islamic Relief Worldwide – Iraq delivered a capacity-building programme for 17 participants from Halabja University, Halabja Technical College, and Halabja Technical Institute.

Through a 30-hour Training of Trainers (ToT) programme—combining in-person and virtual sessions—participants strengthened skills in digital literacy, career guidance, interactive facilitation, and professional use of LinkedIn. The training emphasised practical application, mentorship, and peer learning to enhance Career Development Centre (CDC) services.

Participants are now working to integrate digital tools into student support services and share knowledge within their institutions. To sustain this progress, IRW–Iraq will equip CDCs with modern technological resources to enhance service delivery and respond to evolving labour market needs.

في شهر رمضان المبارك الذي تجتمع فيه العوائل بمحبه وتكافل، وزعت الإغاثة الإسلامية عبر العالم - العراق سلة رمضان لـ 3239 أسرة في خمس محافظات. احتوت كل سلة على مواد غذائية أساسية كالرز والزيت والسكر والعدس والتمر، وغيرها من السلع الضرورية، مما ساعد الأسر على تلبية احتياجاتها خلال هذا الشهر الفضيل.

نسأل الله أن يُلهمنا هذا الشهر مزيدًا من التضامن والمسؤولية تجاه المحتاجين.

لە مانگی پیرۆزی ڕەمەزاندا کە خێزانەکان لە بیرکردنەوە و هاودەنگیدا کۆدەکاتەوە، ڕێکخراوی فریاگوزاری ئیسلامی لە سەرانسەری جیهان – عێراق پشتگیری لە 3,239 خێزانی هەژاری کرد لە سەرانسەری پێنج پارێزگادا بە هاوکاری سەبەتەی خۆراکی پێویست. هەر سەبەتەیەک بابەتە سەرەکییەکانی وەک برنج، ڕۆن، شەکر، نیسک، خورما و کاڵا پێویستیەکانی دیکەی لەخۆگرتبوو، ئەمەش یارمەتی خێزانەکان دەدا لەم مانگە پیرۆزەدا کە پێداویستییەکانیان دابین بکەن.

As Ramadan brings communities together in reflection and compassion, Islamic Relief Worldwide – Iraq supported 3,239 vulnerable families across five governorates with essential food assistance. Each basket included staple items such as rice, oil, sugar, lentils, dates, and other basic commodities, helping families meet their needs during the holy month.

Fatimah Wadeea served as a MEAL Officer with Islamic Relief Worldwide – Iraq, where she played an important role in strengthening monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning practices across programmes.

Through her dedication to data quality, evidence-based planning, and continuous improvement, Fatimah contributed to enhancing programme effectiveness and accountability to the communities we serve. She supported the development of monitoring tools and reporting systems, ensuring accurate data collection and informed decision-making.

Working closely with programme and field teams, she helped integrate feedback and learning into implementation processes—reinforcing a culture of collaboration and shared responsibility.

Meet Abbas
A story of dedication, and impact ✨

Since joining Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) – Iraq as an FSL Officer on 14 September 2023, Abbas has played a key role in the successful implementation of multiple humanitarian and development projects in Thi Qar Governorate.

Abbas contributed to the implementation and completion of several impactful projects, including Strengthening Community Resilience in Southern Iraq funded by IR Canada, the MSMEs Project funded by IR US, and the Nexus Accelerator Fund (NAF) – Resilience and Recovery Pathways for Iraq (RRPI) funded by World Vision. He also supported two WASH in Schools projects aimed at enhancing education access through improved WASH services, funded by IR Switzerland and IR Mauritius.

Through his work, Abbas built strong and effective relationships with local authorities and diverse community segments in Thi Qar. He demonstrated leadership by guiding field teams during project implementation and ensuring that project objectives were achieved as planned.

Abbas also provided direct support to vulnerable farmers and youth, contributed to the implementation of seasonal projects, and worked closely with MEAL and Procurement teams to support smooth project delivery.

Driven by humanitarian values, Abbas appreciates IRW’s commitment to serving the most vulnerable rightsholders and its work across diverse sectors, including Agriculture, Education, IDPs and Refugees support, Capacity Building, and Protection—a mission he is proud to contribute to every day.

The Empowering Youth with Market-Driven Digital Skills Project in Halabja Governorate is an initiative by Islamic Relief Worldwide - Iraq to enhance the digital skills capacity of university and institute students to improve their employability, job opportunities, and professional success.
The project activities consist of a series of training and practical activities that are important for building digital skills among youth for obtaining employment. Another part of the project activities is placing youth in work centers for the purpose of gaining work experience.
This project aims to empower university youth and recent graduates in digital skills that respond to the current needs of the labor market and future opportunities.
The Empowering Youth with Market-Driven Digital Skills Project in Halabja Governorate seeks to strengthen youth capacity, reduce youth unemployment, and support their sustainable development through preparing a new generation of skilled, confident, and socially responsible young leaders.
This project is implemented in collaboration with Halabja University, Halabja Technical College, and Halabja Technical Institute.
