Strengthening Digital Accounting Skills for Future Employment 💻

As part of the “Empowering Youth with Market-Driven Digital Skills in Halabja Governorate, Iraq” project, the Uniform Electronic Accounting System (UEAS) Training was successfully conducted at Halabja Technical Institute from 9 - 16 August 2026.

The six-day training brought together 13 participants - 10 students and 3 teachers, including 10 Females and 3 Males participants. The training focused on practical learning and familiarising participants with UEAS and its application in accounting-related tasks.

Through this training, participants strengthened their digital accounting and software skills, gained practical knowledge relevant to their field of study, and enhanced their readiness for future employment opportunities.

The participation of teachers also contributes to the sustainability of the training by enabling them to share and further apply the knowledge gained with their students.

The project continues to work with educational institutions and young people to provide market-driven digital skills that respond to emerging labour market needs and support young people in their transition to employment. 🤝🌍

🌟 Meet Zana Fariq! – From Archiving Intern to HR/Admin Assistant 🌟

Today, we are pleased to introduce Zana Fariq and share a little about his inspiring journey with Islamic Relief Worldwide – Iraq. 💙

Zana started his journey with IRW Iraq in February 2024 as an Archiving Intern, initially joining us for a one-month internship. From the beginning, he showed a strong willingness to learn, take responsibility, and contribute to the team. 🤝🌱

Following his internship, an opportunity became available for an HR/Admin Assistant position based in the Halabja Field Office. Zana took the initiative to apply for the position and successfully went through the selection process.

What makes Zana's journey even more meaningful is that, at the time, the Halabja Field Office was newly established. This gave him the opportunity to be part of something from the very beginning and to play a tangible and important role in supporting the establishment and day-to-day operations of the office. 🏢✨

Working in a newly established field office comes with its own challenges and requires flexibility, initiative, teamwork, and the ability to adapt to changing needs. Zana embraced this opportunity and contributed across HR and administrative functions, helping support the smooth operation of the Halabja office and its staff. 💼🤝

With an academic background in Human Resources Management and Diplomacy & International Relations, Zana has a genuine passion for people development, employee engagement, and creating a positive and supportive workplace. 📚🌱

His journey from a one-month intern to taking on a key HR/Admin role in a newly established field office is a great example of how commitment, initiative, and willingness to learn can create opportunities for professional growth. 🚀

We are proud to have Zana as part of the IRW Iraq team and appreciate the contribution he has made to the development and operation of the Halabja Field Office. We look forward to seeing him continue to learn, grow, and make a positive impact. 💙👏

Keep growing, Zana! Your journey is a great example of turning an opportunity into an achievement. 🌟

✨ Meet Ali Jasim – Program Manager 🌍💙

Ali's journey with Islamic Relief Iraq began in December 2022, when he joined the organization as a Project Coordinator. What started as a new career opportunity quickly became a journey filled with purpose, growth, and meaningful impact. Through his dedication and commitment, Ali progressed to the role of Program Manager, where he now leads the Diyala Field Office and oversees the implementation of integrated projects across community assets, WASH, education, livelihoods, and agriculture.

👏 Throughout his journey, Ali has worked closely with colleagues, local authorities, partners, and communities, gaining valuable experiences that have shaped both his professional and personal growth. For him, humanitarian work is not just about implementing projects—it's about listening to people, building trust, restoring hope, and empowering communities to create a better future with dignity.

🤝🌱One of the milestones Ali is especially proud of is contributing to the establishment of Islamic Relief Iraq's Thi Qar Field Office, helping expand our presence and reach more vulnerable families in need. 📍💙

Reflecting on his journey, Ali shares:
"Every experience has taught me something valuable. The challenges we've faced have strengthened my belief that real and lasting impact comes from teamwork, commitment, and a genuine desire to serve others. I am proud to be part of an organization that puts humanity at the heart of everything it does." 🌟

A Step Forward for Stronger Localization in Iraq 🇮🇶🤝

Building a resilient and prosperous Iraq requires strong partnerships, shared leadership, and a collective commitment to the communities we serve.

"Our success is your success. Our failure is your failure, and your failure is our failure. We will celebrate our successes together and learn from our failures. Together, we will go a long way in serving the people of this country."

These were the inspiring opening remarks of Zahid Hussain Jalbani, Country Director, during the Local NGO Partnership Meeting and Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony, where Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) Iraq formalized strategic partnerships with eight local NGOs from across Iraq.

This milestone reflects our commitment to advancing the localization agenda by strengthening local leadership, fostering collaboration, and empowering civil society organizations to lead sustainable humanitarian and development solutions.

During the event, Shahnawaz Khan, Head of Programs, presented the IRW Iraq Country Strategy 2026–2030, outlining our vision and strategic priorities for the next five years. The strategy emphasizes locally led action, stronger partnerships, and collective efforts to deliver lasting impact for vulnerable communities across Iraq.

Our shared commitments include:
✅ Strengthening regional collaboration and reducing duplication of efforts.
✅ Promoting community resilience through grassroots empowerment and inclusive governance.
✅ Enhancing transparency, accountability, and collective impact through participatory approaches and shared learning.

Ayoub Ahmed, Partnership Focal Person, also presented the IRW Partnership Policy, highlighting the significant progress made toward establishing strategic, long-term partnerships with all eight local organizations. These partnerships represent an important step in strengthening local capacity and ensuring that humanitarian and development responses are increasingly led by local actors.

The true success of today's event will not be measured by the signatures on the MoUs, but by the positive and lasting impact we create together in the lives of the people we serve.
We extend our sincere appreciation to all our partner organizations, colleagues, and civil society leaders whose commitment and collaboration made this milestone possible.
Together, we are building stronger partnerships, stronger communities, and a stronger future for Iraq.

Promoting Health, Hygiene, and Dignity for Displaced Families in Erbil

As part of the Islamic Relief South Africa-funded project, Life-Saving Support Including NFIs, Food Assistance, and Access to Safe Drinking Water and Hygiene Practices for Vulnerable IDPs in Erbil Governorate, Iraq, Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) Iraq successfully completed the third round of family hygiene kit distribution across the Hassan Sham U2, Hassan Sham U3, and Khazir M1 IDP camps.

A total of 950 vulnerable internally displaced families received comprehensive family hygiene kits containing essential items to support daily hygiene and sanitation needs. Each kit included handwashing and bathing soap, laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, hair shampoo, children's shampoo, antiseptic solution, adult toothbrushes, toothpaste, sanitary pads, garbage bags, razors, dishwashing scrubbers, and a 60-liter household waste bin.

This intervention is part of IRW Iraq's broader humanitarian response to improve access to essential hygiene supplies, promote safe hygiene practices, reduce the risk of waterborne and communicable diseases, and safeguard the health and dignity of displaced families. By ensuring access to these critical items, the project helps create safer, healthier, and more dignified living conditions for families enduring prolonged displacement.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Islamic Relief South Africa for its generous support and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of vulnerable communities in Iraq. Together, we continue to deliver life-saving assistance and restore hope where it is needed most.
