🌿💧 قادت معالي وزيرة البيئة، السيدة سروة عبد الواحد قادر، زيارة ميدانية اليوم إلى نهر تانجرو، بمشاركة ممثل منظمة الأغذية والزراعة للأمم المتحدة (الفاو) في العراق، صلاح الحاج حسن وممثلين عن وكالات الأمم المتحدة، للاطلاع على بؤر التلوث ومناقشة السبل الكفيلة باستعادة هذا المجرى المائي الحيوي.

🌍💙هذا و تواصل منظمة الفاو في العراق متابعة التحديات التي يواجهها نهر تانجرو، حيث لا يزال تلوث المياه يؤثر في النظم البيئية والزراعة وسبل عيش المجتمعات المحلية.
وتمثل هذه الزيارة الميدانية اليوم خطوةً جديدة نحو تعزيز الحلول القائمة على العلم، والعمل المشترك، والشراكات الفاعلة.

🌿💧 H.E. Sarwah Abdulwahid Qader, Minister of Environment, led today's field visit to the Tanjaro River, joined by Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Iraq Representative Salah El Hajj Hassan, and representatives of UN agencies, to assess pollution hotspots and discuss pathways towards restoring this vital waterway.

🌍💙 FAO Iraq has been closely following the challenges facing the Tanjaro River, where water pollution continues to affect ecosystems, agriculture and the livelihoods of local communities.
Today's field visit marks another important step towards advancing collaborative, science-based solutions.

في ظل استمرار تأثير التطورات الإقليمية على الاقتصاد والنظم الزراعية والغذائية في العراق، يقدم العدد الثاني من المذكرة الإعلامية "الزراعة والأمن الغذائي في العراق" تقييماً محدثاً لآثار استمرار اضطراب الملاحة في مضيق هرمز على الإنتاج الزراعي، والأسواق، وسبل العيش، والأمن الغذائي.

وقد أُعدت هذه المذكرة بشكل مشترك من قبل منظمة الأغذية والزراعة للأمم المتحدة (الفاو)، والمنظمة الدولية للهجرة (IOM)، ومركز التجارة الدولية (ITC)، ومجموعة البنك الدولي، وبرنامج الأغذية العالمي (WFP)، بهدف دعم عملية صنع القرار القائمة على الأدلة وتعزيز قدرة النظم الزراعية والغذائية في العراق على الصمود.

📘 New Publication | Agriculture and Food Security in Iraq – Information Note (Issue #2)

As regional developments continue to affect Iraq's economy and agrifood systems, the second issue of the Agriculture and Food Security in Iraq Information Note provides an updated assessment of the implications of the continued Strait of Hormuz disruption on agricultural production, food markets, livelihoods and food security.

The publication was jointly developed by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the International Trade Centre (ITC), the World Bank Group, and the World Food Programme (WFP) to support evidence-based decision-making and strengthen the resilience of Iraq's agrifood systems.

🌍 Better monitoring for a Better Environment and Better Production.

🤝 في اليوم الدولي للتعاونيات، تؤكد منظمة الأغذية والزراعة للأمم المتحدة (الفاو) أهمية التعاونيات باعتبارها محركاً لنظم زراعية وغذائية أكثر قدرة على الصمود وشمولاً واستدامة.
وفي مختلف أنحاء العراق، بادرت الفاو بإنشاء ودعم التعاونيات لتعزيز الإنتاجية، وإضافة القيمة، وتحسين الوصول إلى الأسواق، وخلق سبل عيش أفضل للمجتمعات الريفية.

👩‍🌾🐄 ويشمل ذلك التعاونيات النسائية لإنتاج الألبان، حيث تطوّر النساء مشاريعهن، ويزدن من دخلهن، ويسهمن في تعزيز النظم الغذائية المحلية.
ومع الاحتفاء بالسنة الدولية للمرأة المزارعة، نسلّط الضوء على النساء اللواتي يقدن التغيير ويعززن مستقبل الزراعة في العراق.

🍅🌴 تحوّل تعاونية الزبير الزراعية روح التعاون إلى فرص حقيقية.
وبدعم من الفاو والاتحاد الأوروبي، تعمل التعاونية على تحسين عمليات ما بعد الحصاد، والحد من الفاقد الغذائي، وتوسيع فرص الوصول إلى الأسواق، وخلق فرص عمل للمجتمعات الريفية.

🤝 On the International Day of Cooperatives, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) celebrates cooperatives as drivers of resilient, inclusive and sustainable agrifood systems.
Across Iraq, FAO Iraq has initiated and supported cooperatives to improve productivity, add value, strengthen market access and create better rural livelihoods.

👩‍🌾🐄 This includes women-led dairy cooperatives, where women are expanding businesses, increasing incomes and strengthening local food systems.
As we also mark the International Year of the Woman Farmer, FAO celebrates women leading change across rural Iraq.

🍅🌴 The Al-Zubair Farmers' Cooperative is turning cooperation into opportunity.
With FAO and European Union in Iraq بعثة الاتحاد الاوروبي في العراق support, the cooperative is improving post-harvest handling, reducing food losses, expanding market access and creating jobs for rural communities.

ضمن تدخلات مشروع تعزيز مرونة سبل العيش الزراعية للمجتمعات الريفية الأكثر هشاشة للتغيرات المناخية، الممول من صندوق المناخ الأخضر ، تستعد امنظمة الأغذية و الزراعة للأمم المتحدة (الفاو)، بالتعاون مع @وزارة الموارد المائية العراقية ، لتسليم أجهزة التسوية الليزرية إلى جمعيات مستخدمي المياه والجمعيات الفلاحية في محافظة النجف، دعماً لكفاءة استخدام المياه وتعزيز الإنتاجية الزراعية.

وفي هذا الإطار، عُقد اجتماعٌ مشترك في محافظة النجف برئاسة السيد وكيل وزارة الموارد المائية د. حسين عبد الأمير بكة، وبمشاركة ممثل الفاو في العراق د. صلاح الحاج حسن، إلى جانب ممثلين عن وزارة الموارد المائية و منظمة الفاو وجمعيات مستخدمي المياه والجمعيات الفلاحية في العباسية، والقادسية، والمشخاب، والمناذرة، والحرية، والحيدرية، لبحث آليات توزيع الأجهزة والاستعدادات لبدء تسليمها.

وسيتم توزيع هذه الأجهزة بعد استكمال تدريب الجمعيات على تشغيلها وصيانتها، وبالتنسيق مع الحكومة المحلية في محافظة النجف ومديريتي الزراعة والموارد المائية. كما شمل البرنامج زيارةً إلى موقع تجميعها للاطلاع على مواصفاتها الفنية وأفضل السبل لتشغيلها، تمهيداً لبدء توزيعها .

As part of the Strengthening the Resilience of the Most Vulnerable Rural Livelihoods to Climate Change project, funded by the Green Climate Fund (GCF) ,the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), in cooperation with the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources, is preparing to deliver laser land levelling equipment to Water Users Associations and farmers' associations in Najaf Governorate, supporting more efficient water use and increased agricultural productivity.

In this context, a joint meeting was held in Najaf, chaired by H.E. Dr. Hussein Abdul Amir Bakka, Deputy Minister of Water Resources, and attended by FAO Representative in Iraq Dr. Salah El Hajj Hassan, alongside representatives of the Ministry of Water Resources, FAO, Water Users Associations and farmers' associations from Al-Abbasiyah, Al-Qadisiyah, Al-Mishkhab, Al-Manathira, Al-Hurriya and Al-Haydariyah, to discuss distribution arrangements and preparations for the handover.

The equipment will be distributed following training for the associations on its operation and maintenance, in coordination with the Najaf local government and the Directorates of Agriculture and Water Resources. Participants also visited the equipment storage site to review its technical specifications and operational requirements ahead of the distribution.

🌾 أجرى ممثل منظمة الأغذية والزراعة للأمم المتحدة (الفاو) في العراق، الدكتور صلاح الحاج حسن، وفريق الفاو، إلى جانب ممثلين عن وزارة الزراعة العراقية و وزارة الموارد المائية العراقية ، زيارةً ميدانية مشتركة إلى المواقع التجريبية للشتل الميكانيكي للشلب في قضاء المشخاب بمحافظة النجف، لمراجعة التقدم المحرز ومناقشة الأنشطة المقبلة ضمن المشروع الممول من الصندوق الأخضر للمناخ.

💧 واستعرضت الزيارة استعمال تقنية الشتال الميكانيكي للشلب، وهي إحدى الممارسات الزراعية الذكية مناخياً التي أدخلها المشروع للمساهمة في زراعة الشلب باستخدام كميات أقل من المياه، وتقليل الاحتياجات إلى الأيدي العاملة، وتحسين الإنتاجية. 🌾🇮🇶

🌾 Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Representative in Iraq Dr. Salah El Hajj Hassan, the FAO team, and representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) and the Ministry of Water Resources (MoWR) conducted a joint field visit to pilot mechanical rice transplantation sites in Al-Mishkhab, Najaf, to review progress and discuss upcoming activities under the Green Climate Fund (GCF) -funded project.

💧 The visit showcased mechanical rice transplantation, one of the climate-smart agricultural practices introduced through the project to cultivate rice using less water, reduce labour needs and improve productivity. 🌾🇮🇶

التقى ممثل منظمة الأغذية والزراعة للأمم المتحدة (الفاو) في العراق، د. صلاح الحاج حسن وفريق المنظمة، بممثلي مديريات الزراعة والموارد المائية والبيئة في كربلاء، لمتابعة التقدم المحرز في تنفيذ مشروع الصندوق الأخضر للمناخ (GCF)، وتعزيز التنسيق مع الشركاء على المستويين الوطني والمحلي.

وركزت النقاشات على تعزيز الممارسات الزراعية الذكية مناخياً والمستدامة، وتعزيز القدرة على الصمود في مواجهة تغير المناخ، والتنسيق بشأن توزيع المعدات على المستفيدين من المشروع.

وتؤكد منظمة الفاو التزامها بمواصلة العمل مع السلطات الوطنية والمحلية لدعم سبل العيش القادرة على الصمود والإدارة المستدامة للموارد الطبيعية.

Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Representative in Iraq, Salah El Hajj Hassan, and the FA O team met with representatives from the Directorates of Agriculture, Water Resources and Environment in Karbala to review progress in implementing the Green Climate Fund -funded project and strengthen coordination with national and local partners .

Discussions focused on promoting climate-smart and sustainable agricultural practices, enhancing climate resilience, and coordinating the distribution of equipment to project beneficiaries.

FAO remains committed to working closely with national and local authorities to support resilient livelihoods and sustainable natural resource management.
