Mercy Hands for Humanitarian Aid

Mercy Hands for Humanitarian Aid A humanitarian nonprofit organization, based in Baghdad, Iraq. A recognized partner of UN agencies an Mercy Hands was founded by Dr. Khaldoon Al-Moosawi in 2004.

The history of Mercy Hands is a story of courage, determination, and commitment to helping people in need. In the aftermath of the attack on UN Headquarters in Baghdad and the subsequent targeting of international aid workers, most of the international aid workers had to leave the country and majority of the international aid organizations either pulled out or reduced activities. This situation cr

eated a huge gap in the humanitarian context in Iraq at a time humanitarian needs in Iraq were growing mainly as a result of military operations and continuous waves of displacement. Two Iraqi medical doctors, who had only one year experience in the humanitarian field, responded voluntarily to the situation by creating a local non governmental humanitarian organization. With a great will, a lot of determination and courage, and self commitment to help people in need, the two doctors succeeded to recruit staff and secure donation for the organization’s first humanitarian intervention. With the same determination and a clear vision, Mercy Hands has grown from a small local NGO to a nationwide organization that has many satellite offices and a regional office in Amman, Jordan.

(Basra, April 28, 2026) Mercy Hands was honored to participate in the consultative workshop convened by يونيسف العراق - UNICEF Iraq for partner organizations implementing the Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Program, held on 28 April 2026 at the premises of Ana Basri Organization.

The workshop brought together implementing partners to review outreach and awareness-raising activities conducted to promote the ECCE program among local communities and local government decision-makers.
