What happens when awareness turns into real experience? Perspectives shift.
A powerful disability sensitisation programme brought together 60 college students at T.B.M.L. College, Poraiyar, for a day of learning, reflection, and meaningful engagement. Instead of passive listening, students actively participated in simulation activities that helped them experience everyday challenges faced by persons with disabilities, including the often unseen impact of learning disabilities.
The sessions, facilitated by resource persons from Satya Special School, created space for open conversations on inclusion, accessibility, and available support systems. As discussions deepened, curiosity slowly transformed into empathy and a stronger sense of social responsibility.
By the end of the programme, one message stood out clearly. Inclusion is not an act of charity, it is a collective responsibility that begins with awareness and grows through action.
The overwhelmingly positive feedback from students reflected just how eye opening and impactful the experience had been.
