Elderly Sister Smti. Markio Oken Nyelam participated in the World Environment Day 2025 celebration held at Khach, organised by Khach Future Generation.

In her address, she expressed deep concern over the ongoing destruction of forests in the Morm Gaab area, primarily due to the expansion of large cardamom cultivation. She explained how this deforestation has directly contributed to the recent flood bursts in Deed Lejo and Paab Dwrbu Neelam, leading to environmental and infrastructural damage.

Smti. Markio Oken Nyelam emphasized the urgent need for collective action to reverse this damage. She appealed to the community to actively participate in afforestation efforts, highlighting that the protection and restoration of forests are not only crucial for ecological balance but also essential for the safety and well-being of future generations.

She commended the efforts of Khach Future Generation for organizing the event and raising awareness among the youth and villagers, and encouraged all to take personal responsibility in planting and nurturing trees.

Elder Shri Neelam Aku, actively participated in the World Environment Day 2025 celebration, organised by Khach Future Generation, through a plantation-cum-social service initiative held at Khach.
During his address, Shri Neelam Aku emphasized the vital role of trees in maintaining ecological balance and protecting water sources. He expressed concern over the growing environmental degradation in the region, drawing attention to the recent flood burst in Deed Neelam, which caused extensive damage. The disaster included the destruction of the main pipeline in the Duch stream, as well as severe impact on Habach and Habbat streams, which serve as key catchment areas supplying drinking water to the people of Deed Neelam.

He attributed the disaster to the rapid and unchecked deforestation, particularly due to the large-scale clearing of large cardamom plantations in forested areas. This deforestation has led to serious soil erosion, weakening the land’s natural ability to absorb and regulate water flow — ultimately resulting in the flood burst.

In his heartfelt appeal, Shri Neelam Aku urged villagers and stakeholders alike to recognize the urgency of the situation:
“We are witnessing the consequences of our actions. Let us take responsibility. Stop deforestation. Start afforestation. Our future — and the future of our children — depends on what we do today.”
The event concluded with a pledge by all participants to work collectively toward a greener, safer, and more sustainable future for Khach and its surrounding regions.

🚨FLOOD DESTRUCTION IN Deed&Neelam 🚨

Severe floods have hit Duch stream and Habach Habbat stream — the main catchment areas for Deed and Neelam water supply. Heavy debris, muddy water, and soil erosion have already damaged the environment and destroyed the main water pipeline, leaving communities in water scarcity for few week!
🛑 This is not just a natural disaster — it's the result of massive deforestation that has destabilized the land and disrupted the water cycle.
🌊 Duch and Habach Habbat stream are critical water sources. To protect them, these two catchment areas be brought under the Arunachal Pradesh Drinking Water Catchment Area Protection Act, 2023.
