Empowerment becomes much more meaningful when it extends beyond the self.

Savings groups members from Bala Vikasa’s Women Integrated Development Program continue to move from financial strength to social responsibility through The Orphan Solidarity Program. Children of the community who have been orphaned are identified and adopted by the rural women who look after their survival needs and education till they find employment.

The Orphan Solidarity Day is celebrated across all program centers to celebrate the birthdays of these children. They receive new clothes, essential groceries, and encouragement from hundreds of women members who contribute a day's wages towards this in addition to foregoing a day's wage to attend the event and show their solidarity.

In order to further strengthening this community-led initiative, the formed by Bala Vikasa and other local donors too make generous contributions towards the education of orphans on this day.

This year, we had 10,600 women in attendance celebrating birthdays of 175 orphans from 350 villages.

When women lead development, communities protect their own.

Let’s stand together to support women’s leadership, equality, and opportunity—because when women rise, communities thrive.
