Students Play a Pivotal Role in Environmental Conservation: District Forest Officer Smt. Lavanya, IFS
Hanamkonda, March 20, 2026: Commemorating World Sparrow Day and World Forestry Day, the Warangal Forest Department and the Orugallu Wildlife Society jointly organized drawing and essay writing competitions for school students at the Kakatiya Zoological Park in Hanamkonda.
Serving as the chief guest for the event, District Forest Officer (DFO) Smt. Lavanya, IFS, took a keen interest in viewing the drawings created by the students. Speaking on the occasion, she emphasized that the responsibility of protecting endangered sparrows rests upon all of us. Explaining the critical importance of forests in maintaining ecological balance, she lauded the students for cultivating an affection for nature from such a young age. A commemorative poster was also released to mark World Sparrow Day.

Distinguished Guests: The event was attended by Dr. Radhika (Program Coordinator, NSS Unit, Kakatiya University), Smt. Mayuri (Forest Range Officer & Zoo Assistant Curator), Indaram Nageswara Rao (Founder President, Orugallu Wildlife Society), Chelupuri Shyam Sundar Sharma (Founder Secretary), and others. The guests commended the Orugallu Wildlife Society for its dedicated efforts toward wildlife conservation. He commended the students, praising them for sharpening their intellect and creating magnificent depictions of nature.
Participants: Joint Secretary Pittala Ravibabu, TORCH Founder-Secretary Arvind Arya, Section Officers Surya Das and Shivakumar, Beat Officers, and Zoo staff—along with a large number of teachers, parents, and students—participated enthusiastically in this event.
The event organizers announced that prizes would be presented to the students who demonstrated exceptional talent in the essay writing and drawing competitions tomorrow—March 21st—on the occasion of World Forestry Day.
