In September 2024, a new chapter began at the Police Boys and Girls Club (PBGC) in Arumbakkam. A group of 34 students joined the first batch of ICT classes, launched in partnership with HCLFoundation and Dbai Salem. The goal was simple yet impactful: to give children access to digital learning and help them use technology with confidence and creativity.
The enthusiastic response encouraged us to grow. A second batch of 34 students enrolled at Arumbakkam, and we expanded to Kanagi Nagar, where 20 more students joined. Today, 88 children across both centers are part of this exciting journey.
The two batches at Arumbakkam have now completed their training, and each child received a completion certificateโmarking their progress and dedication.
These classes were about more than just learning to use a computer. We began with assessments to understand each studentโs starting point and track their growth. From there, students explored a wide range of toolsโLibreOffice for documents and presentations, creative apps like Tux Paint, Scratch, and KTurtle, and educational tools for math, science, and geography. They even worked with multimedia programs like GIMP, OpenShot, and Audacity to edit images, videos, and audio.
For many, the sessions became a space to explore, build, and express. Watching them grow from hesitant beginners to confident creators was deeply rewarding.
None of this would have been possible without the support of HCL Foundation and DBAI. Their commitment to meaningful learning has opened new doors for these young learners.
