Startup Saturdays | 20 Dec 2025

You think you have something of value, and you are excited about it. Could be a service or a product, and you cant stop thinking or talking about it. Everyone is happy and excited for you, but you just cant seem to convince anyone to put their money down to either buy, invest, or collaborate. Sometimes people don't seem to be as excited as they were before. They just don't see the same value as you see. Your excitement starts to wane, and you begin to think that all that was for nothing. Now, did you convey the value proposition meaningfully?

Feature Speaker
Mr. Prasad Saggurti says value proposition is extremely important in many ways. Unclear or inadequate value proposition can lead to obvious challenges with sales and marketing, but also could impact your company negatively on strategy, product development, and business growth. Particularly, investors shy away from companies without clear value proposition because it is hard to assess product-market fit.

Prasad Saggurti is Executive Director, Product Management at Synopsys. Prior to Synopsys, Prasad held senior engineering and marketing roles at MoSys, ARM, National Semiconductor and Sun Microsystems. Prasad has an BE in Electronics Engineering from Andhra University, MSEE from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an MBA from the University of California-Berkeley. With extensive experience over two decades working with product development teams across a range of products, he considers value proposition to be a critical component of a startup's growth. He will sharing is thoughts and ideas on value proposition and its importance.

*Startup Saturdays | 18 October 2025*

"One Family, One Entrepreneur' is the slogan now. With hundreds of thousands of students graduating every year, and well paying jobs not keeping pace with it, the focus is slowly shifting to entrepreneurship as a viable career option. But, we all know it is not an easy journey. With numbers like "95% of startups fail" doing the rounds, it is scary for a young graduate, and her/his parents to launch on this path. But, if it takes twelve years of schooling to even be eligible to take a college entrance test, why do we expect to succeed in being an entrepreneur without any prior training? So, we have some problems to sort before we can realize the dream of having an entrepreneur in every household - sort of 'mass entrepreneurship.'

*Feature Speaker*
Subhash Kiran is a seasoned rural development professional with over 15 years of experience in vocational education, enterprise promotion, IT systems, and large-scale livelihood programs. Over his career, Subhash has held key leadership roles in institutions such as EGMM, NRLM, SEEDAP, and the Andhra Pradesh Food Processing Society. He has been instrumental in designing and implementing transformative programs like Rajiv Yuva Kiranalu, Start-Up Village Enterprise Programme, and KRuSHE, focusing on employment generation, entrepreneurship, and sustainable livelihoods for underserved communities.

He is currently working as Program Director for Andhra Pradesh at the Global Alliance for Mass Entrepreneurship (GAME), where he leads initiatives to strengthen the MSME ecosystem, promote entrepreneurship, and build local enterprise support networks across the state. Founded in 2019 to address one of India’s most pressing challenges the lack of widespread and decent employment opportunities, GAME believes that for India to achieve the vision of “Viksit Bharat”, we need widespread and decentralized entrepreneurship that creates distributed jobs, livelihoods, and local prosperity. Let's hear from Mr. Kiran about the vision and work of GAME and how it may help Vizag's entrepreneurship ecosystem.

*Show me the Money:* As usual, Charita will present on a source of funding for startups.

Startup Saturdays | 20 September 2025

From Seaweed in the last session, lets broaden our perspective to all aqua culture. Aquaculture is labor intensive. Water quality, feed, predators, fish stock, automation of operations, data analytics, ecosystem health, and consumer trust are areas where challenges are being addressed with a variety of technological interventions. Sure, we are far from picture perfect systems, but significant progress is being made every day. Soon, as a consumer, you can know the entire path of a fish or seaweed from its genesis to your plate and you can choose to not eat it because the farming methods were not ecologically sustainable!

Feature Speaker
Mr. Pavan Kosaraju founded AquaExchange Agritech to be in that ballgame. He is using the latest tools in technologies such as Bio-engineering, IoT and ML to transform the AquaCulture sector. His company has currently automated more than 25% of all shrimp farms in India. Over a career spanning 20 years working in Germany and India with firms such as Infosys, SAP Labs and KPMG, Pavan has acquired deep knowledge of the technology and financial modeling sectors which he is currently using to add value to the aquaculture farmers. Pavan holds an engineering degree from IIT Madras, an MBA from esmt, Berlin and is FRM certified from GARP, USA.

Show me the Money: As usual, Charita will lead a discussion on ways to go forward with this segment. After two cycles of experimentation, she needs some feedback.

Pitch Perfect: Our two customary startup pitches followed by idea pitches and open mic will conclude the session.

Location: GMR Smart Hall, Science and Technology Bhavan, South Campus, Andhra University.
Time & Date: 4 PM, 6 September 2025.
Open to all, no registration, limited seating.

Startup Saturdays | 16 Aug 2025

Seaweed are a diverse set of macrophytic plants growing in the marine environment with considerable ecological and commercial significance. Red, green, and brown algae that are common in Indian waters have a number of commercial applications in pharmaceutical, food & neutraceutical, cosmetics, industrial, and agricultural sectors.

Dr. Sekar Megarajan gave us a run down of cultivation methods in various sea conditions, economics of cultivation at scale, and possible commercial products derived from seaweed. The current global market for seaweed is valued at $5.6 billion USD and is projected to grow to $11.8 bilion USD by 2030. While India traditionally harvested very little, government is now encouraging seaweed cultivation as a meaningful economic activity by investing Rs. 2,000 crores through many schemes.

With a long coast line, Andhra has potential, but requires some intensive technology development and research to make seaweed cultivation viable here. The goal is to boost production to 1.12 million tonnes in the next five years. We are currently at 35,000 tonnes, and the opportunities for innovation and entrepreneurship are vast.

It was a very informative presentation and an engaging Q&A session. Slides from the presentation are shared below. You can watch the entire session on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/live/GGgBTZ25e40?feature=shared

Show Me the Money Charita summarized all sources of funding she covered over the past several sessions. This is the second round-up, and we plan to dig deeper into each one from the next session. For further questions or assistance on funding matters, please email us at [email protected].
