50+ alumni, countless conversations, familiar faces, new introductions, and an evening that truly felt like IIT Bombay away from campus.

The Nashik Alumni Connect happened on 9th of May brought together alumni, students, chapter leaders, and institute representatives for discussions that went far beyond a regular meetup.

Exchanging chapter updates and ideas to conversations around student wellness, mental health, sustainability, and reducing carbon footprint, the gathering reflected how deeply alumni continue to stay involved with the institute and each other.

One of the highlights of the evening was the felicitation of Chapter Executive Committee members by Prof. Shireesh Kedare and Prof. Upendra Bhandarkar, recognising the consistent efforts being made across chapters to keep alumni connected through events, initiatives, and local communities.

What stood out most was seeing people from different batches and cities instantly continue conversations like no time had passed at all, something only the IIT Bombay alumni network manages to do so naturally.

A big thank you to everyone who joined, contributed, organised, and made the evening what it was.

And to those who couldn’t make it this time, we definitely missed having you there.

Here’s to more reunions, more conversations, and more reasons to keep coming together.

Highlights from The IITBAA Bengaluru Badminton Tournament 2026 is here.

One where the IIT Bombay alumni network came alive. Truly heartening to see our chapter step up with such initiatives, bringing alumni together, sparking engagement, and keeping the IIT Bombay bond alive across cities, well beyond campus.

A huge thanks to the organisers and all the participants for making this such a memorable and spirited experience.

Ever noticed the birds around you… and wondered where they’ve been? 🌿🐦

From backyards to remote wilderness, our recent Lumina session with Garima Bhatia (IITB, B.Tech., Chem. Engg., 1995) took us on an inspiring journey into the world of birdwatching ✨

From fascinating bird facts to stories from Nicobar Islands and beyond, one thing stood out—
you don’t need to travel far to connect with nature. It can begin right outside your window.

💡 Start small. Stay curious. Look closer.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us for this beautiful session!

There was a rather funny and eccentric fellow named Arun Kaul. One day, he came across an abandoned horse near the Vihar pipeline. On a whim, he decided to bring it to the hostel.

And just like that, the hostel had a horse.

We kept it in the open ground near the north wing, where it would graze on the grass.
Soon enough, the idea came up, if we have a horse, why not try riding it?

Of course, no one really knew how to.

Some claimed they did, but couldn’t quite manage. So Arun Kaul, who had never ridden a horse in his life, took it upon himself to figure it out.

And somehow, he did.

Now once you learn to ride, you need somewhere to go, right?

He chose the most unexpected destination, the lecture halls.

Arun was originally supposed to graduate in 1976, but he stayed on until 1979. He quite enjoyed hostel life and wasn’t in any hurry to leave.

To extend his stay, he kept enrolling in a course called organic chemistry.

And so, he would ride the horse all the way up to the lecture halls. Not inside, of course, but he’d park it in the cycle shed (like you see in the image), right alongside the bicycles, and then walk in to attend class.

Imagine that! A horse calmly standing among cycles.

He’d attend the lecture, come back, and ride off again. In the process, he learned enough organic chemistry to finally graduate in ’79.

The horse stayed in the hostel for about a month, until its owner eventually tracked it down to IIT Bombay and took it back.

But in that short time, it became a full-blown sensation on campus.

On the very first day he rode it out, nearly 50 people joined in a spontaneous procession, from the hostel to the main building with drums and loud cheers, as if announcing to the world that something extraordinary was happening...

Every alumni community is built on something deeper than shared history, it’s built on people who choose to stay involved and engaged.

This month, we are happy to recognise two such individuals from the Class of 1966, whose time, effort, and a whole lot of dedication have gone far beyond expectation to only give back to the alumni community.

Mr. Elijah Aaron Elias: From initiating the Diamond Jubilee Reunion conversations to bringing together the core team, Mr. Elias has been at the heart of it all. His consistent presence on campus, and ability to inspire batch mates to contribute have played a key role in shaping a reunion that created impact beyond the moment.

We are fortunate for his leadership which has inspired many from his batch to generously contribute towards Tinkerers’ Lab, ICT Mumbai an accessible space for students to tinker, build, and turn ideas into real-world prototypes and initiatives like Financial Aid program, consistently leading by example and encouraging wider participation.

Mr. Hariharan Sundaresh: A pillar of strength throughout the reunion journey, contributing across multiple fronts, from fundraising for the batch legacy to thoughtfully compiling life stories from batch mates for the yearbook.

He undertook the demanding task of reaching out across the cohort, encouraging participation, and bringing together deeply personal narratives that reflect each individual’s journey over the years. This involved sustained follow-ups, careful coordination, and building stronger connections to ensure every story was captured with authenticity and care.

Without the unwavering support of the alumni community this would have been impossible to achieve. We congratulate our alumni in spotlight for their relentless commitment.
