Andhrapradesh pollution control board, in association with Swarna Andhra–Swachhandhra Corporation, celebrated World Environment Day 2026 at the School of Planning Auditorium, Vijayawada. The event was chaired by Hon'ble Chairman sir and attended by Chairpersons and senior officials of Swachhandhra Corporation, AP Biodiversity Board, and APEMCL.
The programme commenced with plantation of saplings and inauguration through lamp lighting, followed by insightful addresses on environmental conservation and sustainable development. A special screening of the environmental film EGWA, produced by Poorna battu, highlighted the importance of protecting nature and inspired participants towards environmental responsibility.

Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister Sri Pawan Kalyan conducted a field inspection in Rajamahendravaram to review pollution issues affecting Godavari river waters. Dr. P. Krishnaiah, IAS (Retd.), Chairman, APPCB, Sri S. Sri Saravanan, IFS, Member Secretary, APPCB, along with APPCB officials, attended the inspection.

During the visit, the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister interacted with local fishermen and reviewed concerns related to industrial wastewater entering the river. He emphasized that while industries are important for development and employment, protection of public health and the environment is equally important, and directed officials to ensure strict compliance with pollution control norms.

Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister and Minister for Forest, Environment, Science & Technology Sri Pawan Kalyan chaired a review meeting with APPCB officials at the Mangalagiri Camp Office, attended by Dr. P. Krishnaiah, IAS (Retd.), Chairman, APPCB, Sri S. Sri Saravanan, IFS, Member Secretary, APPCB, and Sri M. Rajasekhar, Chief Environmental Engineer, along with senior officials.

During the meeting, he emphasized that while industries are essential for the nation’s progress, protecting public health and the environment is equally important. He stated that industries should strictly follow environmental norms, establish green belts, and comply with noise pollution control guidelines.

The Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister also directed APPCB to take strict action against industries violating environmental regulations, ensuring sustainable development and environmental protection.

Dr. P. Krishnaiah, IAS (Retd.), Chairman, APPCB, appreciated the “Plastasurudu” initiative organized by EFM Vijayawada. During the programme in Vijayawada, he, along with Rural Manager EFM Sri Kishore, flagged off an awareness vehicle carrying the messages “Refuse Plastic, Plant a Sapling” and “Reduce Plastic, Build a Green Future.” Plastic waste was collected from the public, and saplings were distributed in return as part of the initiative.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Krishnaiah warned that plastic dumped in open areas eventually reaches canals and water bodies, causing serious environmental damage. He urged citizens to reduce plastic use and support efforts for a cleaner environment.
