Abhigyaan
Where hope gets a new life...
Founded in 2005 in Birla Institute of Technology And Science - Pilani,
K.K. The initiative was started by educating the underprivileged of campus which included workers who did not get elementary eduaction as well as their children on campus who could not afford going to school because of various reasons. Presently, Abhigyaan members teach the mess workers
and the staff in the Institute Cafeteria (I.C.) along with young children. Evening batch, as we call it, is specially meant only for young children. These children start learning with alphabets, numbers, simple arithmetic, etc. Members of Abhigyaan's evening batch are engineering students with a passion to teach younger minds and make them understand the importance of education. We do not aim only at teaching them English or maths, but rather strive to help them understand the real importance of education. The Night Batch and the IC Batch are specifically for the mess workers and the I.C. staff respectively. These are people who have realized the importance of education over the years. With such an opportunity, they really don't want to miss this chance of learning again. A group of highly motivated students inspire Abhigyaan members to work more than anything. With most of them having quite basic knowledge of alphabets and numbers, this batch of Abhigyaan aims at teaching them English grammar, reading and writing along with little advanced mathematical topics(Percentages, Decimal numbers, fractions, Unitary Methods etc.) with examples related to their work to help them understand even better. The basic aim of these batches is to motivate them into reading and writing along with topics they wish to learn. Also, apart from the Night Batch and IC batch, Abhigyaan also has a Computer Batch to encourage the workers learn more about computers. They are taught basic operations of computer (using the mouse, keyboard etc.) using software’s like Paint, Ms Word, etc. Staff members with a appreciable English vocabulary are also taught to surf the internet. The computer batch aims at explaining the applications of what they learn in their IC/Night batch. We, at Abhigyaan, aim at continuing the efforts that our seniors have put in throughout the past so many years and also fulfill the expectations of the people we teach. More than the teacher-student relation, we work hard to create a friend-friend relation which helps us work more efficiently.
