✨ The Hidden Cost of Shine: My Journey Into India’s Mica Mines ✨
Mica is in almost everything around us — smartphones, nail polish, foundation, mascara, lipstick. Its sparkle fuels huge profits for global industries.
But behind that shine lies a reality most consumers never see.
I traveled to the mica mines of Jharkhand, India, one of the poorest regions in the country, to witness how this mineral is really extracted. What I saw was heartbreaking: children and entire families digging with their bare hands, exposed to toxic dust, dangerous landslides, and exploitative working conditions.
This is the reality of “dirty mica.”
I documented this journey to shed light on the human cost hidden behind the products we use every day. It’s a story that needs to be told — and heard.
