A Father’s Pride: From Struggles to Kabeer’s Victory
By Lenin Raghuvanshi — 3 min read · Just now
When Hindustan Times ran the headline “Varanasi’s Kabeer wins a thriller in state 6 ball snooker c’ship”, I felt immense pride. My son, Kabeer Karunik, clinched a 4–3 comeback victory at the State 6 Ball Snooker Championship in Prayagraj—a triumph that went far beyond sport.
What This Win Means to Me
We live simply, committed to the Buddha’s Right Livelihood and Shiva’s essence of फक्कड़पन (candor). This choice meant modest living, even while I traveled abroad for honors like the 2010 Weimar Human Rights Award—our priorities always stayed rooted in essentials.
During the pandemic, our entire family tested positive for COVID-19. I fell critically ill. Shruti and Kabeer rushed me to Teen Murti Hospital, Varanasi. Friends and comrades were there with prayers, funds, and support—but it was Kabeer’s devotion that truly saved me. He visited daily, encouraged me to quit alcohol, and reminded me why life matters.
Today, watching him play with calculated focus and calm resilience, I see that his strength is born of shared struggle. This win isn’t just about snooker—it’s proof that dreams don’t need privilege; they need courage.
I was marching against child labour across Asia when Kabeer was born in 1998. A year later, Nobel Laureate Kailash Satyarthi welcomed him at the Bachpan Bachao Andolan in Delhi—a reminder that our fight is always for the children.
Kabeer, I love you. Bravo. May your passion, perseverance, and grace continue to inspire all of us. 🌟
