15 August 2026, India's 80th Independence Day Celebration.

Bangladeshi notable performers, Research Scholar Mr. Sharif Muhammad Arefin Rony, Mr. Tuhin Par etc. performed on the eve of India's 80th Independent Day in the presence of the Hon'ble Vice-chancellor Prof. Ajit Kumar Chaturvedi sir. The vice-chancellor sir unfurled the national flag of India with the rhythm of National Anthem of India, sung by the international students and delivered his inaugural speech to the gathering of international students.

India is Bangladesh's key ally. It played a vital role in the Bangladesh's 1971 independence war, and the people of Bangladesh always remember this with profound gratitude.

Campus, Rising Stars, and Star Youth—three youth-centric publications of The Daily Star—are recruiting contributing writers. Interested individuals are requested to fill up this form as instructed. Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend an in-person interview and a writing test at The Daily Star Centre (details will be provided). Shortlisted applicants currently living outside Dhaka will have to attend the interview and writing test virtually.

A few things to remember:

Any use of AI is prohibited. Applicants should not use any AI tool for writing or editing their articles.

While topics are provided, we ask that you come up with appropriate titles for the articles on your own.

Each article must have a word count between 450 and 500 words. We ask applicants not to exceed the word count.

Q) Who can apply?
We strongly encourage students in high schools, colleges, and universities (based in Bangladesh or international Bangladeshi students) to apply. We are also looking for young professionals and fresh graduates.

Q) Is this a full time position?
No, you will be recruited as a freelance contributor, and will not be required to come to the office on a regular basis. You will, however, be required to show up once a week at The Daily Star Centre for contributor meetings.

Q) Is this a paid gig?
Freelance contributors do not get a fixed salary. You will be paid based on the number and length of each article that is published.

Q) Can you apply if you're not based in Dhaka?
Yes, you can apply even if you're not based in Dhaka. If you are recruited, you will be required to communicate with the editorial team virtually.

Ruiya Ground plays a vital role in the lives of international students. Although this ground is primarily attached to IMS students, international students from across BHU, including Bangladeshi students, use it as their primary playing field. Students from various other disciplines also come here every day to play different kinds of games.

Bangladesh XI in BHU recently arranged a football match against a team comprising students from various backgrounds at BHU who regularly play on this ground. As expected, Bangladesh XI in BHU emerged victorious, defeating their opponents 2–1.

বাবা ছিলেন দিনমজুর, আজ কোটি টাকা স্যালারিতে মাইক্রোসফটে যোগ দিলেন ওমর ফারুক!

কুমিল্লার একটি ছোট গ্রামে জন্ম ওমর ফারুকের। বাবা ছিলেন দিনমজুর। কখনো রাজমিস্ত্রীর সহকারী, কখনো লেবারের কাজ করে কোনোমতে সংসার চালাতেন। একটি ভাঙা টিনের ঘর ছাড়া তাদের তেমন কোনো জায়গা জমি ছিল না। আর্থিক সংকটের মধ্যেই নিজের চেষ্টায় পড়াশোনা চালিয়ে যান ওমর ফারুক।

কুমিল্লা ভিক্টোরিয়া কলেজ থেকে এইচএসসি শেষ করে নানা সংগ্রাম পেরিয়ে ইন্টারন্যাশনাল ইসলামী ইউনিভার্সিটি আইআইইউসি থেকে ইলেকট্রিক্যাল ইঞ্জিনিয়ারিংয়ে স্নাতক সম্পন্ন করেন। পড়াশোনার পাশাপাশি টিউশনি করে নিজের খরচ চালানোর পাশাপাশি প্রতি মাসে পরিবারকেও সহায়তা করতেন।

এরপর যুক্তরাষ্ট্রে ফুল ফান্ডেড স্কলারশিপে মাস্টার্স করার সুযোগ পান। মাস্টার্স শেষে অ্যামাজন, ফেসবুক মেটাতে সফটওয়্যার ইঞ্জিনিয়ার হিসেবে কাজ করেন এবং মেটাতে ইন্টারভিউয়ার হিসেবেও দায়িত্ব পালন করেন।

📢 Call for Applications for Science and Technology Higher Education Fellowships (Academic Year 2026–2027)
Fellowship Notice: Applications are invited from eligible Bangladeshi citizens for fellowships to pursue higher studies in science and technology related disciplines in Bangladesh and abroad under the Science and Technology Fellowship Trust.

Application Period: 16 July 2026 to 15 September 2026 (up to 4:00 PM BST)

Application Procedure: Applications must be submitted online through the Fellowship Trust portal.

Fields of Study: The fellowship is open to a broad range of disciplines in the natural sciences, engineering and technology, mathematics, medicine, agriculture, environmental sciences, information and communication technology, biotechnology, nuclear science, robotics, artificial intelligence, and other related fields.

Eligibility (summary):

Applicants must be Bangladeshi citizens.

For Master’s/PhD or equivalent programs, the applicant’s age shall not exceed 35 years as of the closing date; for diploma-level programs, the upper age limit is 42 years.

For study abroad, admission to a highly ranked university (as specified in the fellowship guidelines) is required.

Applicants for overseas study must possess a valid English-language proficiency score (IELTS Academic, TOEFL iBT, or PTE Academic) by the application deadline.

Prescribed application fees apply for both domestic and overseas fellowships.

Detailed guidelines, eligibility criteria, and application instructions are available on the official website of the Science and Technology Fellowship Trust. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply within the stipulated deadline. Late or incomplete applications may not be considered.
