On the occasion of International Mother Language Day, HEM Ashram organized a meaningful celebration dedicated to honoring and preserving our mother tongue. The program was conducted with the valuable support of Gujarat Sahitya Academy, Gandhinagar, under the visionary leadership of Dr. Bhagyesh Jha, Chairman of the Sahitya Academy, and Dr. Jayendrasinh Jadav, Registrar. Their guidance and encouragement strengthened the spirit of the event and reinforced the importance of linguistic heritage in shaping cultural identity.
The highlight of the program was an engaging storytelling session led by Mrs. Tina Patel. Through the powerful medium of stories in the mother tongue, she instilled core human values in the students. More than ten carefully selected stories were narrated to communicate essential life lessons such as honesty, selfless service, ethical living, gratitude, humility, and the importance of avoiding pride and superficiality. The session emphasized how the timeless stories once shared by grandparents remain deeply relevant in today’s world. By keeping these narratives alive, the program also underscored the need to preserve our rich and diverse linguistic dialects. Even classic tales like “The Tortoise and the Hare” were presented with fresh interpretations, ensuring that children remained attentive, thoughtful, and inspired.
Another distinguished speaker, Mrs. Rita Dadawala, further enriched the celebration through her soulful presentation of poems and songs in the mother tongue. Her remarkable voice and expressive delivery captivated the audience throughout. Through poetry and verse, she explored different dimensions of language, culture, and expression. Accompanying herself skillfully on the harmonium, she created a vibrant and joyful atmosphere that deeply engaged the children. With great enthusiasm and warmth, she demonstrated how academic lessons and stories can be transformed into poetic or musical forms, making learning both enjoyable and memorable.
Our CRC, Mr. Yagnesh Chavda, also addressed the gathering and motivated both students and teachers to continue their commendable efforts in nurturing language, culture, and values.
The event was a heartfelt tribute to our mother tongue, celebrating not only language as a means of communication, but as a living legacy of culture, values, and collective memory.
