Darpan Initiates 3-Month Yoga & Wellness Programme at Salem Central Prison
Darpan initiated a Yoga & Wellness Programme at Salem Central Prison, aimed at supporting the well-being, inner transformation and rehabilitation of prisoners through yoga, pranayama and meditation.
Addressing the participants, Guruji emphasised the inherent divinity and transformative potential present in every individual. He shared, “I see myself in each one of you, because each one of you is a spark of divinity.” He said that meaningful transformation is possible through the regular practice of yoga, pranayama and meditation.
Guruji also shared practical insights on managing anger, responding to challenging situations with equanimity, and remaining nonchalant in the face of what others may say or think about them. He encouraged the participants to release their anger, sorrow and other negative emotions to Guruji and described himself as a “sink” that could absorb their problems, encouraging the participants to symbolically donate their anger, sorrow and negativity to him. The message resonated deeply with the participants, many of whom expressed their happiness and appreciation for the encouraging and compassionate words.
The initiative was undertaken at the invitation of Dr Sandeep Rai Rathore IPS, Director General of Police (Prisons and Correctional Services), Tamil Nadu and Shri R. Kanagaraj, Inspector General of Prisons and Correctional Services (Headquarters), Chennai, who invited Darpan to conduct regular wellness sessions for prisoners as part of efforts towards their holistic well-being and transformation. We thank DGP Shri Sandeep ji and IGP Shri Kanagaraj ji for providing Darpan the opportunity to make a difference to the lives of the participants.
Superintendent of Police Shri Vinod Kumar and Jailer Shri Sivandandam expressed their gratitude to Guruji and Darpan for initiating the programme and conducting regular sessions for the prisoners. They highlighted the programme's outcome-based approach, where the changes and progress among participants are regularly observed, measured and assessed.
Our heartfelt gratitude to Shri Jitendra Kumar ji for his continued support to Darpan's social initiatives 🙏
