*MLA Uri Dr. Sajjad Shafi Uri Holds Press Conference After Assembly Session, Highlights Tourism and Public Issues*
Srinagar,30 September 2026: MLA Uri Dr. Sajjad Shafi Uri addressed a press conference at the conclusion of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly session and highlighted several issues concerning the Uri Assembly Constituency. The Assembly’s Sixth Session concluded on September 30.
Dr. Sajjad Shafi Uri expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for the steps taken towards promoting tourism in Uri. He said that his efforts regarding the Trade Facilitation Centre (TFC), Salamabad, had yielded results, with the facility being handed over to the Tourism Department for tourism-related activities. The move is expected to support border tourism, eco-tourism and pilgrimage tourism in the Uri area. The Tourism Department has also indicated plans to use the Salamabad facility for promoting border tourism and creating local livelihood opportunities.
The MLA said that several important issues related to health, education, Power Development Department (PDD) and Public Health Engineering (PHE) were also raised during the Assembly session. He said concerns regarding educational infrastructure and staffing had been highlighted and expressed hope that the identified gaps would be addressed in the coming year. Dr. Shafi had also raised the issue of a scheme on the pattern of ReT for filling teacher vacancies in far-flung areas.
On the ST-II issue, Dr. Shafi said that the concerns raised regarding the processing of applications in Uri had been taken up with the government.
Regarding the Jal Shakti Department report, Dr. Shafi said that the issue of pending payments to contractors who had completed works was also highlighted, and stressed that eligible contractors should receive their payments for the work already executed.
He said the Assembly session provided an opportunity to raise several developmental and public-interest issues concerning the people of Uri Constituency.
