Youth Wellness Hub acknowledges the transformative power of reading and maintains a small library “Nini’s Library”, fostering a culture of reading and reflecting. Notably, reading story books forms an indispensible part of Hub’s Wellness activities with the youth and other visitors from different walks of life…

Members of Clinical Psychology department spent an evening at Youth Wellness HUB on 16.09.23.

We started things off with a theater activity to loosen up our bodies, transitioning into a session where we let our minds roam through a story book read-aloud on the topic of worries (Ruby's Worry).

This was followed by a reflective dialogue on how each individual copes with worries. The conversation concluded with a set of questions that we pondered over, seeking answers through a group activity.

Everyone set on a visual journey, sketching out their worries and thinking of clever "tricks" to face them head-on collectively.

Some were all about having a chit-chat about their worries, some preferred a serious talk with the worry itself, and one chose to dance away to
to avoid "marinating" in the worry.😄

As the evening drew to a close, we engaged in a discussion about the drawings, reflecting on the insights they offered.

On the eve of 'World Su***de Prevention Day' (09/09/23), members from the Department of Clinical Psychology came together for a peer-led discussion. This was an effort by YWH to highlight the important role peers play in creating a safe and open space for dialogue.

Together, we discussed about challenging the ideas people have about those struggling with mental health. Power of kindness was a recurring theme in the conversation, appreciating the impact compassion can have on someone going through a hard time.

Some members who work in clinical settings shared their experiences and insights, especially in situations when individuals are faced with purposelessness.

The evening closed with a reflective activity, capturing key takeaways from the discussion.

"Nature does not hurry, yet everything is achieved" - Lao Tzu

On 10 June, 2023, visitors of Youth Wellness Hub spent an afternoon slowing down and reconnecting with nature outside and within in an Afternoon 'Healing' Adda. Led by Nitin Das, a forest healing practitioner and Susanna Lama, an arts-based therapy practitioner, the visitors enjoyed different ways of listening to nature and engaged in art and movement as ways of expressing self-love. The afternoon was brought to a close with beats of djembe. The visitors expressed that they found 'freedom', discovered themselves in 'a new light' and left with messages of desiring more of such 'healing' afternoons.

On the occasion of 'World Environment Day' (05/06/23), YWH in collaboration with Child and Adolescent Psychiatry(CAP) Unit, LGBRIMH celebrated it as means of connecting with Mother Nature. A lively group of children and adolescents from CAP spent some time with us. The day included fun filled programs beginning with a short skit themed around protection of environment, followed by story telling, forest theatre and wall painting activities. All the youngsters along with their parents participated in these activities with great enthusiasm. The YWH firmly believes and upholds the idea of 'wellness connected with environment' and we hope to continue to take initiatives to go back to nature more and more.

Yet another beautiful Saturday (13/05/23) spent with a jolly group of visiting interns from Gauhati University! The day started with a physical orientation of our beloved YWH, followed by a short and creative introduction of all participants and facilitators where we heard various stories of summer vacations. The session revolved around summer nostalgia with childhood summer games revived as icebreaking activities.
In keeping with childhood summer traditions, a book (Fakruddin's Fridge) reading session was held with participants being encouraged to reflect in the process. The session concluded with creation of bucket lists/visions for the glorious summer ahead through an engaging art activity!
