YOUTH LEAD CLEAN REVOLUTION IN UKHRUL

ENFOGAL, Pettigrew College Students Drive 4th Phase Anti-Litter Campaign Under Himalayan Cleanup 2026

The Dawn Tantak ( TDT News)
Ukhrul, May 9:

IN a strong push toward environmental responsibility and civic discipline, the fourth phase of the Anti-Litter Campaign was successfully conducted today across Ukhrul Town by ENFOGAL in collaboration with the Pettigrew College Students’ Union, targeting the growing menace of littering, open dumping, and indiscriminate plastic waste disposal.

The campaign, now officially integrated into the 2026 Himalayan Cleanup Programme, witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 200 youth volunteers who joined hands to restore cleanliness along major streets, drains, marketplaces, and public spaces increasingly affected by unmanaged waste.

Armed with cleaning tools, placards, and awareness messages, the volunteers not only carried out intensive cleanup activities but also engaged directly with residents, shopkeepers, and commuters, urging them to adopt responsible waste disposal practices. The initiative emphasized the urgent need to change public habits surrounding littering, which continues to threaten public health, drainage systems, and the town’s overall environment.

Organisers stated that the campaign goes beyond a one-day cleaning exercise, aiming instead to trigger long-term behavioural change within the community. Volunteers highlighted how careless disposal of plastic and household waste has contributed to clogged drains, pollution, and an unhealthy urban environment.

Participants also spread anti-littering awareness messages, encouraging citizens to take collective ownership of public spaces and actively participate in maintaining cleanliness. The programme stressed that sustainable environmental protection can only be achieved through consistent community cooperation rather than periodic cleanup drives alone.

The growing involvement of youth in environmental initiatives was widely appreciated, with organisers noting that the campaign reflects a new generation determined to safeguard Ukhrul’s ecological future.

As the Himalayan Cleanup movement gathers momentum, today’s initiative sends a clear message — a cleaner Ukhrul begins with responsible citizens and sustained community action.

Anti-Litter Campaign in Ukhrul Town

A continuation of the “No to Litter” campaign since 2017, today jointly organized by ENFOGAL and Pettigrew College, this initiative aims to spread awareness and inspire people to adopt a clean and sustainable lifestyle for a healthier environment.
This campaign stands against the growing culture of irresponsibility and indifference. Too often, we see a lack of ownership toward our own surroundings where selfish habits and a constant blame game overshadow our shared duty as a community.
Real change begins with each one of us. Let us take responsibility, change our daily habits, and act with awareness and purpose. Together, we can restore Ukhrul’s beauty and ensure a cleaner, greener environment not just for today, but for generations to come.

Phase 1 of the Litter-Free Campaign, jointly led by Enfogal and Pettigrew College, Ukhrul, marks the beginning of a collective effort to care for our town, and as we take this first step with hope and responsibility, Phase 2 continues this journey on Tuesday—calling on everyone to come together as true Anti-Litter Heroes for a cleaner, healthier Ukhrul.
