Celebration of Indian Independence Day in grass root level.

On August 15th, our nation commemorated Independence Day with a mix of solemnity and jubilation. Dwight D. Eisenhower's words resonated deeply: "Freedom... must be daily earned and refreshed... else it will wither and die." Embodying this spirit, our Self Help Groups organized neighborhood celebrations, pledging to serve the nation by serving their communities. Through various activities, including flag-hoisting ceremonies, they spread joy and fostered a sense of purpose, inspiring individuals to live a fulfilling life. By doing so, they honored the true essence of independence.

Traditional Seasonal Food Festivity of Tulunadu
Our Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts, collectively known as Tulunadu, are renowned for their unique culture. During the mid-rainy season, locally referred to as 'Aati', the region comes alive with traditional food festivities. Locally sourced ingredients are used to prepare a variety of delicacies, which are not only delicious but also packed with nutritional value.
Women from our Self-Help Groups (SHGs), under the leadership of local federations, come together to prepare these traditional dishes and distribute them to the community. This initiative also helps raise funds for the local federations' (Mahasangha's) activities.
We are proud to mention that two of our Mahasangha's - Samrudhi Mahasangha, Petre, Brahmavara Taluka, and Fatima Mahasangha, Perampalli, Udupi Taluka - have successfully celebrated this traditional food festivity. The people of both regions had the opportunity to savour the delicacies and enjoy the festivities. We congratulate both Mahasangha's for their meaningful initiatives.

Chetana Men's Mahasangha, Kanajar Celebrates its First Anniversary with a Traditional Cultural Fiesta
The men's self-help groups, catering to individuals between 18 and 65 years old (and above if interested), focus on socio-economic and political development. When there are more than three such groups in a village, they form a 'Mahasangha' or local federation, which unites the groups and organizes activities promoting socio-cultural aspects and group development.
On Sunday, August 5, 2024, the Chetana Men's Mahasangha of Kanajar, Karkala taluka, celebrated its first anniversary by hosting a traditional cultural event, 'Gandhyanth ek dees' (One Day in the Ploughed Paddy Field). The event took place in a well-ploughed paddy field amidst the rainy season. The primary objective was to unite the Men's SHGs, their members, families, and villagers. Various games were conducted, and traditional delicacies were served, ensuring everyone had an enjoyable day in the muddy paddy field.
Fr. Harold Pereira, Parish Priest of Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Kanajar, Karkala, commended the social involvement and societal contributions of the Chetana Men's local federation members. The guests of honour included Mr. Alton Reberro, President of Samanwaya District Men's Federation, Udupi District, and Mr. Stanley Fernandes, Coordinator of SAMPADA, along with other dignitaries.
The unique event was successfully organized under the leadership of Mr. Antony Miranda, President of Chetana Men's Mahasangha, Kanajar, with full cooperation from the members of Chetana Men's Local Federation and all other member Men's SHGs in the Kanajar area.
