National Technology Day 2026 was celebrated at Avishkar Hall, AB Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, through a collaborative initiative by DST – Nitte University Technology Enabling Centre and AIC Nitte Incubation Centre.

The event brought together academicians, innovators, researchers, and students to celebrate the spirit of innovation, technology, and research-driven impact. The session featured distinguished speakers including Dr. Lazar Mathew, Former Director, DRDO and Senior Advisor, MAHE Manipal, who delivered the National Technology Day Lecture on “MedTech - Current Indian Scenario”, along with Dr. Ramesh Bhat, Head of Research, Father Muller Medical College, who graced the occasion as Guest of Honor. The event was presided over by Dr. M. S. Moodithaya, Vice Chancellor, Nitte DU.

A key highlight of the event was the recognition of faculty members and innovators from various constituent institutes under Nitte Deemed to be University for their contributions towards:

• Patents and Intellectual Property
• Inter-Institute Research & Innovation Projects

The celebration reflected Nitte DU’s growing focus on fostering a strong culture of innovation, entrepreneurship, interdisciplinary collaboration, and translational research.

Day 1 of Nitte-MRPL Coastal Startup Fest 2026, held at Fiza by Nexus Mall on 28th March 2026, marked an impactful beginning to two days of innovation, collaboration, and entrepreneurial exchange.

The day commenced with the inaugural ceremony, bringing together distinguished dignitaries, industry leaders, and ecosystem enablers who highlighted the importance of fostering innovation and building strong regional startup ecosystems. This was followed by an engaging panel discussion on “Innovation Beyond Metros: Building Tier-2 City Ecosystems,” where experts shared valuable insights on opportunities, challenges, and the growing potential of emerging cities like Mangaluru in shaping the future of entrepreneurship.

Day 1 also featured the first round of SPARK 2026 – Premier Student Business Idea Competition, where the top 30 teams, shortlisted from 160+ submissions by 400+ students across 25+ colleges, presented their ideas to an esteemed jury. The pitches showcased strong problem-solving approaches, innovative thinking, and promising market potential.

The energy, participation, and quality of discussions throughout the day reflected the growing momentum of the startup ecosystem in coastal Karnataka and the increasing involvement of students and young entrepreneurs.

The day featured an insightful panel discussion on “Funding, Scaling & Sustainability,” where industry experts shared practical perspectives on navigating funding challenges, building scalable business models, and ensuring long-term sustainability in today’s competitive startup landscape.

A major highlight of the day was the Final Round of SPARK 2026 – Premier Student Business Idea Competition, where the top 10 teams, selected from the previous round, presented their ideas to a distinguished jury. The presentations reflected refined business models, strong validation, and a clear focus on ex*****on and scalability.

The Coastal Startup Expo & Investor Summit also continued to draw strong engagement, with 12 product-based startups showcasing their innovations and pitching their ventures to investors, creating valuable opportunities for feedback, networking, and potential collaborations.

The fest concluded with the Startup Excellence Awards Ceremony, recognising outstanding startups and student innovators for their contributions to innovation and entrepreneurship.

Day 2 truly captured the essence of moving from ideas to ex*****on, highlighting the strength and potential of the regional startup ecosystem.
