When we first saw Tiffin, it was hard to imagine how he could ever be okay again.
It’s shocking to see, but this is the reality for many street dogs in India.
Tiffin’s wound was so severe that the flesh had been eaten away all the way to the bone. A kind neighbour had alerted us to him, and we knew he needed help urgently. Without treatment, he could have lost his leg, or worse.
Collisions with cars and scooters are common, and without treatment, injuries can quickly become infected and plagued with maggots.
Thankfully, we reached Tiffin in time. Every day, we carefully cleaned and treated his wound. Slowly, the infection cleared, healthy tissue began to grow and the terrible wound started to close. Then, little by little, Tiffin began using his leg again.
Today, you’d never guess what he’d been through. He’s back on all four paws, chasing after life and being a playful ball of joy.
It’s easy to look at stories like Tiffin’s and see only sadness. But there’s hope, too. Hope that an animal in unimaginable pain can heal.
Hope for a better future for animals who have nowhere else to turn.
