Today, the Sonja Wildlife Rescue team celebrates the incredible primates who share our forests — intelligent, social, curious, and deeply connected to the ecosystems they call home.
For us, every rescued Western Hoolock Gibbon is a reminder of what is at stake. Their future depends on protecting their forests, stopping illegal wildlife trade, and giving rescued individuals the care and second chance they deserve.
On World Primate Day, we stand for their right to live wild, free, and in healthy forests. 🌿🦧

Aujourd’hui, l’équipe de Sonja Wildlife Rescue célèbre les primates extraordinaires qui partagent nos forêts — intelligents, sociaux, curieux et profondément liés aux écosystèmes qu’ils habitent.
Pour nous, chaque gibbon Hoolock de l'Ouest sauvé nous rappelle ce qui est en jeu. Leur avenir dépend de la protection de leurs forêts, de la lutte contre le commerce illégal d’espèces sauvages et des soins que nous pouvons leur apporter pour leur offrir une seconde chance.

🌱Taylor, a 13-year-old female Western Hoolock Gibbon rescued by the Sonja Wildlife Rescue Unit in partnership with Achik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) in November 2025, recently underwent her final health check before entering the last stage of her rehabilitation journey.

We are happy to report that she is doing very well and continues to make excellent progress. 💚

Every step brings her closer to a new chapter.

Nous sommes heureux de partager qu’elle se porte très bien et continue de faire d’excellents progrès. 💚

Chaque étape la rapproche un peu plus d’un nouveau chapitre.

🌱 Lundi 2 mars, l’équipe éducative du programme HURO a mené sa troisième session de sensibilisation de l’année à l’Université de Tezpur, auprès des étudiants en MBA et en sciences de la vie.
Nous adressons nos sincères remerciements à tous les étudiants qui ont assisté à cette rencontre et qui se sont engagés avec autant d’enthousiasme et d’intérêt dans les échanges.
Un remerciement tout particulier à Sir Tridip R. Sarma pour l’excellente organisation de cette session.
Tout au long de cette année, nous continuerons à porter la voix du Gibbon Hoolock occidental aussi loin que possible, avec l’espoir de faire de 2026 une année forte et mémorable pour l’éducation et la sensibilisation.
Beaucoup d’autres initiatives sont encore à venir.

🌱On Monday 2nd, HURO educational team carried out our third awareness session this year, at Tezpur University, with MBA and Environnemental Sciences students. We extend our thanks to all the students who attended and so warmly engaged with us. Special thanks to Sir Tridip R Sarma, for the wonderful arrangements. We will keep carrying the Western Hoolock Gibbon voice as far as we can this year, and make it a memorable year of education. Much more to come.

🌱The HURO Programme extends its sincere thanks to DHSK Commerce College and to its respected Principal, Dr Joydev Gogoi, for hosting our second presentation session on Thursday.

We truly enjoyed the engaging interactions with the students, making it a very enriching and memorable experience.

🌱 Today marked an inspiring and energetic start to the educational year for the HURO Programme in collaboration with the brilliant students and dedicated educational team from the Center for Management Studies at Dibrugarh University!

More than 150 enthusiastic students joined us for two dynamic sessions filled with engaging presentations, a captivating short film, and lively question-and-answer discussions. The curiosity, passion, and participation we witnessed were truly uplifting and give us great hope for the future of conservation.

We extend our deepest and most heartfelt thanks to Dibrugarh University for their warm welcome, inspiring spirit, and wonderful support in making this event such a memorable success! 🌿🐒

🇫🇷Aujourd’hui a marqué le lancement du programme éducatif annuel du Programme HURO, en collaboration avec les étudiants et l’équipe pédagogique du Centre for Management Studies de l'université de Dibrugarh.

Plus de 150 étudiants enthousiastes ont participé à deux sessions dynamiques mêlant présentations captivantes, projection d’un court film et échanges interactifs lors d’une séance de questions-réponses animée. Leur curiosité, leur engagement et leur enthousiasme ont été véritablement inspirants et nous remplissent d’espoir pour l’avenir de la conservation.

Meghalaya’s celebrated conservationist Betsida C.H. Marak was conferred the Green Guru Award at the 13th Balipara Foundation Awards, recognising her pioneering role in safeguarding the western hoolock gibbon and promoting community-driven ecological stewardship in the Garo Hills.

📸 1 : la femelle gibbon qui attend la mise en place du sauvetage.
📸 2 et 3 : 1er novembre, sauvetage effectué il reste maintenant 4 heures de route sous la pluie battante pour arriver au centre.
📸 4 et 5 : 2 novembre, bilan de santé qui en résulte qu’elle est un peu en sous poids mais globalement en bon état.
📸 6 et 7 : emménagement dans sa nouvelle volière de réadaptation.

🌱 6 ans après notre dernier sauvetage, une femelle de gibbon Hoolock d’environ 13 ans a été secouru dans le district de North Garo Hills.
Elle était chez une famille locale depuis son jeune âge. Après sa découverte elle a été retirée de cette situation et est désormais prise en charge par notre équipe.
Cette action met en lumière l’importance de la coopération avec d’autres associations locales comme avec A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM) que nous souhaitons remercier.

📸 4–5: November 2nd — Health check: slightly underweight, but overall in good condition.
📸 6–7: Moving into her new rehabilitation enclosure.

🌱 Six years after our last rescue, a new story begins!
A female Hoolock gibbon, approximately 13 years old, has been rescued in the North Garo Hills district.
She had been kept by a local family since she was young. After being discovered, she was safely removed from that situation and is now under the care of our team.

This operation highlights the importance of cooperation with other local organisations, such as A’chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM), whom we warmly thank for their support.
