AHAM Welcomes the Completion of RCC Bridge at Rongkhon
The A'chik Holistic Awakening Movement (AHAM), Central Executive Board (CEB), H.Q. Tura, expresses its heartfelt gratitude and appreciation to the Government of Meghalaya for the successful completion of the RCC bridge at Rongkhon in 2026.
On 15 July 2022, AHAM, under the leadership of its President Shri Georgeprince Ch. Momin, submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, requesting the construction of a permanent RCC bridge in place of the old and deteriorated wooden bridge, along with the repair of the damaged approach road leading to DIET, Rongkhon and the B.Ed. College. The poor condition of the wooden bridge and road had caused immense hardship to students, teaching staff, local residents, and daily commuters, besides posing a serious safety risk.
Recognizing the urgency of the matter, the then Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, Shri Swapnil Tembe, IAS, through Letter No. TGC.9/2008/296 dated 21 July 2022, forwarded AHAM's memorandum to the Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads), North Division, Tura, with directions to take the necessary action for theissue construction of the RCC bridge and repair of the damaged road.
Today, AHAM is delighted that the long-pending public demand has finally been fulfilled with the completion of the RCC bridge and the improvement of the approach road in 2026. The new bridge has replaced the unsafe wooden structure and now provides safe, reliable, and all-weather connectivity to DIET, Rongkhon, the B.Ed. College, nearby villages, and the surrounding communities. The project will greatly benefit students, educational institutions, government employees, local residents, and commuters while promoting better connectivity and socio-economic development.
AHAM sincerely conveys its gratitude to Shri Swapnil Tembe, IAS, the then Deputy Commissioner, West Garo Hills, for his prompt intervention and administrative support. AHAM also extends its sincere appreciation to the Executive Engineer, PWD (Roads), North Division, Tura, and the entire department for successfully implementing the project and responding to the genuine concerns of the public.
This accomplishment is a shining example of how constructive cooperation between civil society and the Government can bring meaningful development to the people. AHAM remains committed to raising issues of public importance and working with the Government to ensure that the developmental aspirations of the people of Garo Hills are fulfilled.
On behalf of AHAM, we congratulate the people of Rongkhon and everyone associated with DIET and the B.Ed. College on this significant achievement. We hope this newly constructed RCC bridge and improved approach road will serve the community efficiently and safely for generations to come.
