🌱 Sustainable practices for climate.

🌿 At Torpa Rural Development Society for Women [TRDSW], we have been preserving the cultural heritage of the Munda community 🀍

🌾 A revival of traditional seeds and practices began in 2023 and every year, we host an exhibit of living indigenous traditions with live demonstrations of traditional practices from the beginning to a completed piece of artwork 🎨

πŸ‘€ Through this visual storytelling, we give you only a glimpse of the process, economic and cultural significance of these works of art, made by hand βœ‹, made by our didis (sisters) πŸ‘© and dadas (brothers) πŸ‘¨, as we fondly call them here in the state of Jharkhand 🌿

✨ Our joy is unmatched when we celebrate our heritage, by living traditions, everyday 🀍🌱

🌿 We are surrounded by many a flora and fauna in our Torpa and Rania ecosystem. On 16th February 2026, our village animators and education team collected a piece of nature from their surroundings and contributed to the Tribal Womens Collective 2.0.

✨ Key takeaways:
🌱 These nature's pieces collectively contributed to an ecology lesson for both elders and younger women.

πŸ—£οΈ An interesting exchange of Mundari names, nutritional aspects and recipes took place across age-groups.

🌳 The need for the knowledge of our biodiversity became evident.

πŸ‘©β€πŸŒΎ 60 unique elements collected and explained by 24 village animators.

πŸ“· An exhibition of 40 photographs from in and around the TRDSW campus and field visits by Shveta Sanjay Jadhav.

🌿 Johar Pune!
πŸ‘‹ Mariaelena Figueredo, Director – Torpa Rural Development Society for Women (TRDSW) welcomes you to Living Indigenous Traditions 🀍
πŸͺ” Living Indigenous Traditions is an exhibition in Pune curated by TRDSW. For the past three decades, TRDSW has been working in Torpa and Rania of Khunti district – Jharkhand 🌾
🌳 This long-standing interaction with the Munda community has now translated into a meaningful revival of traditional knowledge. From a young child to a village elder, the Mundas have been custodians of forests 🌿, with knowledge passed on to them from their ancestors πŸ•ŠοΈ
πŸ“œ On realizing that this undocumented knowledge needed to be captured and kept alive for the future, TRDSW felt the need for preservation.
✨ Preservation of untold stories, of oral traditions, by living indigenous traditions.
🌱 For a better today, for a better future.

🌿 Native names for native plants – listen to Torpa Rural Development Society for Women’s Village Animators talk about wild edible plants 🌱 as per their own consumption patterns.
πŸ—£οΈ The closest names that come to their minds are the Hindi / Nagpuri language substitutes – these words are only used for selling in the bazaars 🧺.
πŸ‘€ Look at the glint in the eye and the accurate identification of species that would stun any botanist in the world 🌼✨
🌾 For a closer insight into the bazaar economy and the innate gift of forest living, drop in from 3pm to 6pm on 17th January, 2026
πŸ“ Hyatt Place Hinjewadi

11/01/2026

🌱 To celebrate and strengthen traditional knowledge systems, community events were organised, focusing on indigenous seed conservation, 🌾 wild edible plants, πŸƒ and multi-layer farming demonstrations.
πŸ—£οΈ β€œHapram ko-uh Sennah” – a phrase in the Mundari language which means the knowledge of our ancestors was a sentiment felt among the women as the older women shared their knowledge with younger women about wild edible plant varieties that are soon vanishing 🌿🀍
🀝 Torpa Rural Development Society for Women also prioritised the strengthening of Self-Help Groups (SHGs), recognising them not just as financial collectives, but as platforms for women’s leadership and social transformation ✨
🌸 Building leadership and stories of transformation will be shared by Self Help Group (SHG) women on 17th January, 2026 at Pune πŸ“
