🌺 Karthigai Maha Deepam – 2025 🌺
Sri Ramanasramam, Tiruvannamalai
Today, December 3, 2025, marked one of the most sacred and cherished days in the spiritual calendar of Tiruvannamalai. At the break of dawn, during the auspicious Bharani Nakshatram, the Bharani Deepam was lit inside the Arunachaleswarar Temple at 4:00 AM, signifying the divine commencement of the Karthigai Deepa Utsavam. This ancient ritual symbolizes the emergence of the eternal Light—the Light that is the source, sustenance, and dissolution of the cosmos.
As evening fell and the town stood still in anticipation, the climactic moment arrived. At 6:00 PM, the Maha Deepam was ignited atop the sacred summit of Arunachala Hill. The magnificent flame soared into the sky, illuminating the region with a brilliance that seemed to pierce through time itself. For countless devotees, this was not merely a ceremony but a moment of profound inner awakening—an invitation to recognize the Light within.
This year, an estimated two million devotees from across India and around the world gathered in Tiruvannamalai. The sheer magnitude of devotion was palpable, as pilgrims circumambulated the holy hill, prayed in the temples, and awaited the darshan of the Deepam with hearts full of faith and reverence. Despite the vast crowds, the atmosphere remained serene, charged with a deep spiritual stillness bestowed by Arunachala’s presence.
At Sri Ramanasramam, the day unfolded with equally deep significance. The morning began with a special Abhishekam at the Bhagavan Sannidhi, accompanied by melodious Vedic chanting and lovingly arranged floral decorations. Devotees and Ashram residents spent the day in prayer, meditation, and silent remembrance of Bhagavan Sri Ramana Maharshi, whose life was anchored in the very essence of Arunachala—the Supreme Self.
As the Maha Deepam blazed on the summit, the Ashram joined the sacred moment in perfect synchrony. The ceremonial lamp before Bhagavan’s shrine was lit, and the resonant cry “Annamalaiyku Arogara!” rose from the hearts of all present. This was followed by a collective, heartfelt chanting of Aksharamanamalai (The Marital Garland of Letters), composed by Bhagavan himself as an offering of pure devotion to Arunachala. The atmosphere in the Ashram became saturated with grace—gentle, powerful, and unmistakably transformative.
🙏 On this holy occasion, we pray that Lord Annamalaiyar—the eternal flame of Truth and the Light of all lights—blesses every devotee with inner clarity, unwavering devotion, and the strength to walk the path of Self-realization. May His divine radiance dispel all darkness and lead us towards wisdom, compassion, and liberation.
