Celebrating Equality & Inclusion

We’re excited to share that an Inclusive Samathuva Pongal celebration was recently held at the Florence Swainson Higher Secondary School for the Deaf in Tirunelveli — a beautiful event centered on equality, togetherness, and cultural unity. 🌾❤️

Over 300 students and staff came together to prepare and enjoy sweet Pongal, share sugarcane, and participate fully in the festivities — making sure everyone, regardless of ability, took part with joy and pride.

This celebration reminded us all that when we create space for everyone to belong, festivals become even more meaningful.

PeaceBridge India Community Engagement Programme

Tirunelveli, 22 December:
PeaceBridge India organised a community engagement programme on Monday in the areas of Chintamani and Koonthankulam, focusing on education, livelihood support, and environmental protection.

At Chintamani, sarees were distributed to women farmers, cakes were provided to sanitation workers, and coconut saplings were distributed to farmers. This was followed by an interaction between the PeaceBridge India Directors and the teachers and students of Chintamani School. Despite challenges related to infrastructure and limited resources, the school continues to deliver quality education and nurture high aspirations among its students.

During an interactive session with the students, Subash Chelliah spoke with them about their future ambitions. Students expressed a wide range of aspirations, including becoming doctors, scientists, police officers, engineers, and sanitation workers.

Responding to the students, Subash Chelliah emphasised that every profession carries dignity and value, as all forms of work contribute to society and provide livelihoods. He highlighted that education is a lifelong process, and that strong foundational learning, combined with determination and perseverance, plays a vital role in shaping a bright and sustainable future. As a gesture of encouragement, pens and sweets were distributed to the students.

The programme then continued at Koonthankulam, where the team participated in a tree plantation drive, planting tamarind saplings. Cakes and coconut saplings were distributed to farmers, and a token of appreciation was presented to environmental activist Paravai Manithan Palpandi.

In the evening, the PeaceBridge India Directors visited Nav Jeevan Trust, where the Managing Director, Nalan, welcomed the delegation. A book and shawl were presented to Subash Chelliah, after which an introduction to the work of Nav Jeevan Trust was given, followed by a tour of the premises. The programme concluded with a meeting at the PeaceBridge India office, located within the Nav Jeevan Trust premises.

The programme was attended by PeaceBridge India Directors Ramasuppu, Subash Chelliah, and Snita, along with guests Sinilock, Sasi, John Boss, and Fr. Arokiyaswami.

We’re delighted to share that the packages sent just a week ago through Cargo Force have safely reached PeaceBridge India in Tirunelveli!

Thanks to the generosity of the Indian community in Lincoln, four large boxes filled with clothes, shoes, and children’s items are now in the hands of those who truly need them. Our board member Mr. Ramasuppu and Ms. Sinita received and opened the parcels at the PeaceBridge office.

Some items have already been distributed locally, while the remaining supplies will be shared with a service-driven community group near Valliyur, which provides daily meals to around 40 people.

This wonderful act of solidarity reminds us that compassion knows no borders. ❤️
Together, we continue to build bridges of hope and dignity.
