Anti-Dowry Association was instituted on 25-12-1983 as a committee by N.A.M. Abdul Aleem who was the student of Jamal Mohamed College at the time , under the sponsorship of Prof. At present it has 900 members. This Association acts as the Parent Association for several Anti-Dowry Associations fu
nctioning in different parts of Tamil Nadu. It has successfully concentrated on the abolition of social evil “DOWRY” for the past 27 years. It has conducted many conferences on the evil effects and remedial measures of dowry and attracted the attention of all . Thus the activities of this association grow from strength to strength over the years . The release of Annual magazine name “PIRATHIPALIPPU” happens to be the annual feature. It explores and brings out creative talents of the students. Thus the Association has been responsible for the awareness of the ill effects of dowry and it has a far reaching impact towards the creation of dowry free society. Objectives:
The Aims and Objects of this Association are:
a) To eradicate the Dowry system from our society
b) To wipe out the evil practices of the marriage in the society
c) To enlighten youth about the evils of Dowry system
d) To admit the unmarried youth as the bonafide member of the Association
e) To raise our voice in protest against the existence of Dowry system
f) To encourage the bridegrooms who wed without getting Dowry
g) To convene conferences , seminars and group discussions about the evil affects of Dowry system amongst aged people , parents , illiterates , rich and the poor
h) To struggle for wedding without the Dowry system by getting proper recognition and encouragements from the central and state Governments
i) To request and reveal the need for establishing such an Association in Educational Institutions and Public Places etc….,
j) To chart out an apt solution for the adverse effects of the Dowry system . Activities :
Arrangement of meetings , Demonstrating , Enacting, Dramas , Lectures and Cultural Programmes , Demonstrating the tragic effects of the system. Other Wings in the Club : Helping Hearts
Helping the needy is ADA’s Primary aim . We all are born to win in all fields but there are some hurdles which have to be crossed over, some are hard and few are easy . Help is not a thing which can be spelled merely through words. It should be done whole heartedly. And the help which is done, should benefit those who are in pain; through helping hearts many can be benefited by obtaining scholarship. HELP ! HELP !! HELP THE NEEDY !!! TO

Milestones, achieved a few:
In 1985, The ADA club of Jamal Mohamed College celebrated the International Youth Year, in which more than 750 students took the pledge not to get dowry. In 1986, an all India Meeting against dowry was conducted in Trichy at Thevar Mahal and then the Governor Mr.Khurana felicitated the function. Various resolutions were passed in this function. One of the important resolutions is to give priority to the youngsters in government job who marry without dowry. A great cycle rally was conducted in the year 1991 against the dowry. In 1993, the club members visited the dowry cell and examined the dowry cases, and submitted a first-hand report to the Collector and the Police officers. In the year 1994 a big conference was conducted against dowry in Jamal Mohamed College Auditorium. State Level Essay writing competition was conducted in 2001 and 2002 in order to create an awareness about evils of dowry. This year Essay Writing competition was announced and essays have been received all over Tamil Nadu. A State level Dowry abolition Campaign was conducted in 2004 and the Conference souvenir was released. In order to abolish dowry a huge rally was conducted in 2009, in which more than 100 students participated. In order to create awareness among students about evils of dowry, a state level Essay writing competition was conducted in 2009 on “Dowry - a social evil”. The ADA club is releasing “PIRATHI PALIPU” every year to enrich and enlighten the energetic and emotional ideas of the students about dowry. The club conducts Debates, Speeches, ”SINTHANAI ARANGAM” in dowry related topics to create awareness among students every year. In order to create awareness about anti-dowry among the public, every year large number of stickers against dowry have been stuck in buses and public places. Apart from this, we extend our hands in various social activities such as providing food and clothing to the orphans , keeping the public places neat and tidy, erecting bus-shelters , providing essential materials to the poor, tree plantations, conducting blood donation camps, providing educational help to the backward class people, blood donation and many more social activities. Financial requirement for all these types of activities have been provided by the students on their own. Over the years, the various functions and programmes have brought police officers, collectors, Mayors, Ministers, M.L.As, and other reputed dignitaries as chief guests. District collector of Pudukottai, Mrs.Sheela Rani Shungath declared “IN NEED OF GOOD BRIDEGROOM PLEASE GO TO JAMAL MOHAMED COLLEGE”. All the Chief Guests and eminent personalities are invited to the function by the students with the guidelines of the staff members. The club totally run by the students has achieved a great milestone by completing the silver jubilee in February 2010. We request the State Government of Tamil Nadu to announce a day as “ANTI-DOWRY DAY” for the upliftment of the society and people. With a view to make the people aware of dowry crime and evil, we distributed pamphlets to the people in more than 10 places on a single day during the year 2009. Other Information:
Anti-Dowry Association of women was instituted on 11-07-2010 by N.A.M. Abdul Aleem founder of ADA. At present it has 250 members. It was established with the main aim of abolishing dowry in our society and to create an awareness regarding the evils of dowry among the women and to encourage the youth to marry without dowry. The release of Annual magazine name “ETHIROLI” happens to be the annual feature . It explores and brings out the creative talents of the women students.
