Sristi Foundation

Sristi Foundation Sristi Foundation is a NGO founded with the Vission of "An inclusive society where children and peop Sristi Foundation was founded in 2013 by Mr.

Sristi is a non-profit organization based in rural Tamil Nadu, Villupuram District, India that works towards improving the lives of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We use a combination of education, life skills training, and agriculture to help people who are faced with exclusion, neglect, and many other disadvantages that limit their effective participation in mainstream

society. Karthikeyan Ganesan, a psychologist who spent 15+ years working with children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Karthik grew up in an orphanage that treated all children, disabled or not, equally. However, his disabled siblings faced discrimination in mainstream life. Therefore, after his studies, he returned to the orphanage to help make a difference. While working at the orphanage he learnt that there are 1.6 million persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities in India (Census 2011) with about 75% living in rural areas. With a low employment rate and higher living expenses, they are one of the most impoverished groups in India. Whilst trying to help, the Indian system favors an institutional model – segregating and separating them from society, trapping them in a monotonous, sad, and often abusive cycle. It became Karthik’s mission to change this, and so, Sristi Foundation was born. At Sristi, the members are empowered with training and skills that will enable them to lead a more dependent and dignified life. The methodology combines education, life skills training, and agriculture. On an 8.93-acres of land, we have created an inclusive and holistic environment that we lovingly call Sristi Village. Sristi Foundation runs three (4) pioneer projects: Sristi Village, Sristi Special School, Sristi Farm Academy, Sristi Mobile Therapy Unit as well as a lot of community support and environmental projects.

This ink mark is more than a vote. It is dignity, choice, and recognition!

Our Sristi members proudly showed their ink marked fingers after casting their vote in the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Election.

From a time when getting voter ID cards for persons with intellectual disabilities felt almost impossible, to today where our members stand proud and vote independently, this is a powerful journey.

This is inclusion in action. Every person has the right to decide. Every voice deserves to be heard.

Order Today. Create Impact.

This Tamil New Year, we celebrate more than a festival. We celebrate independence and dignity.

For persons with intellectual disabilities, real world experiences such as shopping, interacting, and making choices help build confidence, skills, and self reliance.

Today, our Wabi Sabi Bakery team stepped out to purchase materials. It may seem like a small step, but it is a meaningful move towards independent living.

We are grateful to Genesys for their continued support. By placing regular orders for their cafeteria, they are not just funding us, but creating real livelihood opportunities and recognising the skills of our Sristi members.

Every opportunity matters. Every order creates impact.

Support us by placing your order with Wabi Sabi Bakery and be part of this journey.

Happy Tamil New Year.

Together Against Loneliness | World Down Syndrome Day!

Sristi Foundation, in collaboration with BWDA Arts and Science College, organized a meaningful World Down Syndrome Day awareness program.

The event highlighted the importance of inclusion, dignity, and equal participation for persons with Down Syndrome. Through interactive activities, students gained deeper understanding and empathy, reinforcing the need to build an inclusive society.

We emphasized that loneliness can be reduced when each of us chooses to include, support, and stand together.

Together, we can create a world where everyone belongs.

Disability and mental health are deeply interconnected, yet they are rarely discussed together!

The Disability and Mental Health Symposium 2026, jointly organized by Sristi Foundation, the Department of Social Work, Pondicherry University, and the Trust for Youth and Child Leadership (TYCL), created a meaningful space to reflect on this intersection through research, practice, and lived experiences.
What made the discussions powerful were the voices of lived experience.

A parent spoke about the stigma families continue to face. In one instance, the family struggled to rent a house simply because they had a child with a disability. A person with disability shared how society often fails to recognize their abilities, forcing them to constantly prove their worth.

A teacher offered a powerful reminder:

“Inclusive education is not about fitting the child into the system. It is about transforming the system so that every child belongs.”

Experts also reflected that nearly a decade after the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016, many of its promises are yet to translate into meaningful change. Systems remain complex and difficult for families to navigate.

Another important reflection emerged from the symposium. When we talk about disability, we often focus on services, schemes, and entitlements. Rarely do we acknowledge the mental health of persons with disabilities and their families. It is time we rethink this conversation.

Our sincere gratitude to Dr. Siva Mathiyazhagan and the TYCL India team for co organizing this symposium with the Department of Social Work, Pondicherry University

Heartfelt thanks to Prof. P. B. Shankar Narayan, Prof. A. Shahin Sultana, Adv. Ummulkhair, and all the panelists for their valuable insights.

Special appreciation to Aditya, the Sristi Fellows, and the entire team who coordinated this thoughtful and impactful symposium

Real change begins when we listen to lived experiences and transform systems that exclude.

Sristi at Purple Fair 2026 at NIEPMID | Empowering Abilities, Uniting Societies!

Sristi Foundation participated in Purple Fair 2026 organized by the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Multiple Disabilities, Chennai.

Representing the National Trust as the Tamil Nadu State Nodal Agency Centre, we showcased National Trust schemes and engaged with stakeholders from across the state.

Our members proudly ran a bakery stall, confidently selling their products and demonstrating dignity through skill and participation.

The event provided a valuable platform for collaboration, mutual learning, and strengthening inclusion in the disability sector.

Demystifying Sexuality in the Context of Disability!

Sexuality and people with intellectual disabilities is often surrounded by silence, discomfort, and misconceptions. At Sristi, we believe that knowledge is power, and silence only increases risk and confusion.

To break this silence and build informed, respectful guidance, we organised a 3 day training program for Sristi staff and team members on “Demystifying Sexuality in the Context of Disabilities.” The workshop was conducted by Enfold India

The learning was truly mind opening. We learned, we reflected, we unlearned many myths, and we gained the confidence and knowledge to support our children and youth with intellectual disabilities, both men and women, in a safer, healthier, and more dignified way.

This training has strengthened our ability to guide, protect, and empower the people we work with.

Our heartfelt thanks to Vijaya, Kavitha, and Shivasankari for facilitating such a meaningful and impactful learning experience.

என் ஊர், என் கனவு: Co-Creating Viluppuram’s Vision 2030!

Honoured to be one of the speakers at the En Oor En Kanavu – Viluppuram District consultative meeting, contributing to the District Vision 2030 under the theme of Social Justice and Social Inclusion, organised by the Government of Tamil Nadu through the Villupuram District Collectorate.

My session focused on “Access without barriers, from care to career,” reimagining how children and youth with intellectual disabilities in Viluppuram can move beyond charity towards dignity, skills, and meaningful employment.

A key takeaway from today’s discussions:

Social inclusion cannot stop at welfare. It must be built into systems that enable assessment, skill development, career guidance, access to schemes, and real employment, especially for persons with disabilities in remote villages.

The strength of En Oor En Kanavu lies in collective participation. When government, civil society, practitioners, and lived experiences come together, inclusive visions become actionable realities.

Grateful for the opportunity to share grassroots perspectives and contribute to building a dignified, inclusive, and opportunity-driven Viluppuram.

என் ஊர், என் கனவு
From care to career.
From vulnerability to dignity.
From exclusion to participation.

Sristi Foundation in The Indian Express: Trained to Thrive, Not Just Survive
We are grateful to The Indian Express for this thoughtful and detailed feature on Sristi Foundation. Our sincere thanks to the author Bagalavan Perier for taking the time to visit us, understand our work, and share our journey so meaningfully.
The article beautifully reflects how young people with intellectual disabilities at Sristi are moving beyond just survival towards dignity and purpose through vocational training in poultry farming, cattle rearing, and other livelihood activities. It also highlights our efforts to create a safe and inclusive space where they can learn practical skills, gain confidence, and build independent lives.
We deeply appreciate this opportunity to bring visibility to the abilities, dreams, and everyday realities of persons with intellectual disabilities, and to the collective effort of our supporters, donors, team, families, and young people who make this journey possible.

Come as a Volunteer, Leave as Family!

Romain from France, a dedicated physiotherapist, volunteered at Sristi Village for six months through DCC France. What began as a volunteer experience became a deeply meaningful journey for both Romain and our community.

Despite cultural and language challenges, Romain embraced rural life with resilience and compassion. Through our Mobile Therapy Project, he reached children with disabilities in remote villages, offering therapy, dignity, and hope.

As we said goodbye, there were tears and gratitude, because Romain did not just volunteer, he became part of the Sristi family. Thank you, Romain, for your dedication and lasting impact. Our doors will always be open for you.
