This is within the Padmanabhapuram municipality. Thuckalay is connected by road with almost all important places in the district. Public offices and institutions like the “Subordinate Judges Court, the munsif courts, the first class magistrates, Court, the offices of the Deputy Superintendent of police. rar’s office, Income Tax office, the Government Hospital, The Government High School, Adi dravidar Hostel and the Amala Government High School for girls with a boarding run by the sisters of the Apostolic Carmel (Whose headquarters is Ernakulum) are located here branches of a few banks like Canara Bank and Indian Overseas Bank are also situated here. The Christian Monastery attached to the Roman Catholic Church at this place was started in 1913. In this monastery, Christians entering priesthood are given training. Peer Mohamed Dargha: There is a Dargha named peer Mohamed oliyullah Dargha’ at Thuckalay named after the great philosopher Mohamed Appa, Who was born in Tenkasi of Tirunelveli District. After spending sometime in spiritual pursuits in peermedu of Kerala state he came and stayed at Thuckalay. Being a Tamil post of great eminence, he wrote many books on philosophy. He had intimate relationship with the kings of Chera dynasty. It is said that he laid foundation stoned for the Padmanabhapuram Granite Fort. The Anniversary of the great philosopher poet is celebrated every year on a grand scale on the full moon day in the month of Rajap. Both the people of Kerala and Tamil Nadu attend the celebrations in large numbers irrespective of their caste, creed and religion. The anniversary day is declared as a local holiday for the district.
