A Community That Cares: GIYANNA Women's SHG Brings Independence to a Bedridden Patient
❤️ When a community comes together, lives change.
During the annual meeting of Giyanna Women's Self-Help Group (SHG), functioning under Amala Service Centre, Kanjirappilly, members had the opportunity to see a demonstration of the CiCare Self-Operated Backrest.
The women immediately recognized how difficult life is for bedridden patients and the constant physical and emotional burden carried by their caregivers. After discussing the innovation with their animators, they made a collective decision—not just to appreciate the product, but to act.
The SHG decided to support one deserving bedridden patient from their network to purchase a CiCare Self-Operated Backrest.
Their first beneficiary was Mr. Aji Yohannan, who has been bedridden following a spinal cord injury. With the financial support provided by the Voice of Specially Abled People (VOSAP) subsidy programme and the contribution from Giyanna Women's SHG, Aji was able to receive his CiCare backrest.
Today, CiCare enables Aji to raise himself independently for meals, taking medicines, reading, and other daily activities—without having to depend on someone every time. The improvement in his comfort, dignity, and independence has deeply touched the members of the SHG.
Encouraged by this positive impact, the women have expressed their interest in supporting more bedridden patients in the future.
A special word of appreciation goes to Fr. Jose Valiamoottil, Parish Priest, who introduced CiCare to the parish community and announced the initiative in the church, inspiring more families to learn about this life-changing assistive device.
This story reminds us that meaningful social change does not always require large resources—it begins with compassionate people making thoughtful decisions together.
🙏 Our sincere gratitude to the Giyanna Women's SHG, Amala Service Centre, VOSAP, and Fr. Jose Valiamoottil for helping restore dignity and independence to bedridden persons.
Together, we can ensure that no bedridden person is left without hope.
