SCM Summer School: The Potters Wheel 2026:
A Journey of Creativity, Realisations & Fellowship

CHRYSALIS Centre for Enabling Life and Learning and SCM Programme Centre organized the SCM Summer School: “The Potters Wheel: Explore, Realise & Shape Life" from April 20th to 30th, 2026 at SCM Programme Centre, Pattom, Thiruvananthapuram. Twelve school students attended the Summer School. It was a memorable journey of self-discovery and holistic development.

The daily schedule starts at 9 am with an assembly which comprised of exercises for eyes, vocal, body and a music meditation. After the assembly, the sessions start with a reflective session on life perspectives and skills, followed by story reading and narration, along with presentation of daily news noted from newspapers. After refreshment, the day grows to music workshop. After lunch, the art cafe and then video screening and review. The day concludes with a round of group games, review of the day. In short, the Summer School enabled the young minds to explore art, music, literature, films and group activities; to realise life values, perspectives and skills through listening and practising; and decided to shape their days and life based on their realisations. A parenting session was facilitated for the parents and a sleep over of the participants at SCM Centre, enriching their fellowship and bonding crossing between the families.

The Summer School was inaugurated by Mr. Shal Soman, Psychologist at Loyola College Extension Services, Thiruvananthapuram. The sessions were facilitated by the SCM Team comprising of Rev. Abby Thomas, Mr. Santhosh George Thomas, Ms. Aiswarya P A, Mr. Johnykutty, Mr. Lovewin K Cherian, Ms. Sneha Susan Mathai, Mr. Sangeeth Varghese Mathew, and Ms. Adcy Alex. SCM Summer School concluded on April 30th. The day witnessed musical performances and experience sharing of the participants. SCM ministry for the young minds witnessed a new growth and accomplishment.

SCM Kerala Region is initiating student ministry for the school students in Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Keralam.

The training department of SCM Kerala - Chrysalis Centre for Enabling Life & Learning (CELL) is organising a summer school for students from class 6 to 12, from April 20 - 30 at SCM Programme Centre, Thiruvananthapuram. The theme is "The Potter's Wheel: Explore, Realise, Shape Life".

The day camp (9 am to 4 pm) will facilitate the young minds to develop self-awareness, life perspective, social commitment, along with exposure and training sessions in art, music, literature and theatre.

Reflection

When Jesus’ other disciples hid because they were afraid, Joseph of Arimathea—who had been a secret disciple—stepped forward bravely. He stood up for Jesus, ignoring the pressure and threats from society.

Being a disciple is not about staying in "safe zones" or being comfortable. It is about having the courage to step out and stand up for the truth you believe in.

Theme: Every step towards discipleship.

Focus: Discipleship: Becoming the fragrance of Christ.

The Reflection: The Fragrance of Christ

The text reflects on the moment a servant girl questioned Peter, suggesting he "smelled" like Jesus—meaning his association with Jesus was obvious.

The Core Idea: Discipleship means being so close to Jesus that you carry his "scent" or essence. It is about knowing his warmth and his character so deeply that it shows in your own life.

Our Reality: Peter serves as a reminder of our own lives. We often stumble, hesitate, and fall. In those moments, we fail to reflect the "fragrance" of Christ.

The Goal: True discipleship isn't just about following rules; it is about becoming like Christ and carrying the scent of his love into the world.
