Jyothirgamaya

Jyothirgamaya Empowering the blind and supporting poor and underprivileged children through Jyothirgamaya. Creating a world of dignity, opportunity, and inclusion for all.

Welcome to Jyothirgamaya!

““If blind cannot go to school, let the school go to them” is at the heart of a novel initiative coordinated by aTiffany Maria Brar

A pioneering effort in Kerala, Jyothirgamaya is a mobile school for the blind that offers training to blind children and adults at their residence. Meaning ‘leading to light’, Jyothirgamaya seeks to not only lead the blind to live enlight

ened and holistic lives, but also attempts to give the sighted population a new perspective on how to look at the blind. Concept:
One of the first obstacles in the way of the blind to gain independence and learn the necessary skills required to adapt is the inability to move around freely. Therefore, many times they are unable to travel to the school or training centre. Keeping this in mind, Jyothirgamaya lives by the concept that “if the blind cannot go to the school then the school should go to the blind”
Our vision:
To see a barrier-free environment where the blind are empowered to use their potential, contribute and be at the forefront of society. Our mission:
To empower the blind through individual need based training and conducting “Road to Independence training camps for the blind in all parts of Kerala.

Glaucoma is not a single disease. It is a group of eye disorders in which the optic nerves, which connect the eyes to the brain, are progressively damaged, usually due to raised intraocular pressure or impaired blood flow to the nerve. While age is a major risk factor, glaucoma can occur at any stage of life, including infancy, childhood, adolescence, and early adulthood.

On the 18th of April, 2026 Jyothirgamaya Foundation in collaboration with Kerala Chess Association and Rotary Club Trivandrum South had our second chess tournament. This was an inclusive chess tournament between visually challenged children and sighted children.

The organisers had planned and arranged this event with utmost innovation so as to promote the spirit of inclusion among youngsters.

May be this be a start to an inclusive environment between the visually challenged and the sighted. The competition went extremely well and there were nine winners among the visually challenged.

We are greatful to the Kerala Chess Association for giving us an opportunity to collaborate with them for organising this wonderful competition.

We also thank the Rotary Club of South for their collaboration, support, for sponsorship and provide a chess board for Jyothirgamaya Foundation.

We thank our individual supporters for their kind help.
